Dominate the lanes with the Diesel.

General Info:

Lane Conditions:  Medium-Heavy/Heavy oil
Typical Conditions:  Different shots
Type of Lane:  Wooden
What part of the lane did you play?  2nd arrow
Weight of bowling ball: 15
Surface of bowling ball:  Green Scotchbrite
Likes:  Predictable, smooth.
Dislikes: Burns up fairly easily on lighter oil.

Ball specs before drilled:

Ball Weight:15 pounds, 4 ounces
Top Weight: 2-3 ounces
Pin Distance: 3-4 inches
Drilling:  Pin under ring, CG swung out, weight hole

Hook Potential:  High
Hook Shape:  Arc
Flare Potential:  .062 (high)
Radius of Gyration:  2.44 (low)

Bowler:  I am a tweener, with high speed and my revs aren’t anything special.  High tracker.

*All ratings are of 12 strikes. 1 strike being the lowest, 12 strikes being the highest of ratings.  A spare denotes a “half” rating.  A gutterball, is well, 0.
Ex.)  6 Strikes and a spare= 6.5/12 rating.

LANE CONDITIONS:

Flood:  I haven’t tried it on a flood, but I imagine I would just be able to play down and in, and if need be, slow my speed and put more on the ball.  Projected:  8 strikes.

Heavy oil:  This ball handles heavy oil pretty well.  My ball is drilled to roll early, and it is dull, so it will pick up its roll early, and just arc on the heavy stuff. 10 strikes.

Medium-Heavy oil/Carrydown:  Same as the heavy oil, the surface/rg allows it to grab the lane and perform its arcing motion.  This is the ball’s true calling.  I get the best look on these conditions, with a great read and roll. 11 strikes.

Medium oil: I find myself moving deeper on medium oil with this ball.  It still performs well when there is some backend, but I start to get out of the realm with this ball.  8 strikes.

Medium-light oil:  Definitely NOT good for this ball.  Unless I take out hand and put speed, it will burn up, therefore hitting like a marshmellow.  Time for a ball change at this point. 1 strike.

Light/Dry: At this point, there is no chance for the ball.  On dry lanes, you could only use it for a spare ball, cause it’s burning up faster than a prostitute in church.  Can I say that?  Gutterball.

Sport Shot: Alright, well the sport shot I bowled was heavy oil, so I naturally used this ball.  I found it worked pretty well, since the was a readable, arcing motion.  The only fault was error by the operator. 9 strikes and a spare.

Hit: On the proper condition, this ball has great hit and carry.  Seems like the low RG keeps the pins low and into each other.  10 strikes.

Looks:  Not too great looking, the black/red swirl is kind of plain.  Good thing looks don’t affect performance.  5 strikes.

OVERALL: If you need a ball for medium-oily/carrydown, this is the ball for you.  It is an even, arcing ball with a good read on the lanes.  The only real downside is a lack of versatility, especially if left dull.  You can’t use it for anything really less than medium, unlike some of those pearl reactives which cover from med-light to med-heavy.  9 strikes and a spare.

Since I have lost a bit in the revs department, I no longer can get my medium equipment to power through carrydown, so I picked this ball off a closeout list last April when I realized that I needed a ball for heavier oil/carrydown conditions.  For what I paid for this ball, I pretty much got what I expected.

Now because of my reduced hand, I decided to drill this ball up more leverage than I usually would.  The basic drilling is a 3 7/8", 90 degree drilling w/o a balance hole (for those of you who like Columbia's/Track's Pin-PAP X CG-PAP notation, that would be a 3 7/8"X 3 7/8").

For conditions that I purchased this thing for, it works fine, but encounter a dry patch anywhere between the foul line and 30' and this ball's not worth its weight in rabbit turds.  This has to be THE most condition-specific ball I own, and probably ever owned.  There's no sense in taking this thing on a hunt for inside angles because it'll get lost on it's way.  It's best suited outside, either playing straight with a bit of speed, or a small belly.  Don't even try coast-to-coast.  It wouldn't make it onto the interstate.

As I said, for what I paid for this ball, I can't complain.  I usually shy away from particle ball because, in my own experience, they're pretty touchy in terms of playable conditions.  So for this ball, there's only one word to describe what it needs.....OIL, and plenty of it, too.  Actually, this ball reminds me of a few government workers I know - they pretty much do what they're there to do, but they certainly won't do any more than they have to, and when it's quitting time, they're gone faster than you can bat an eyelash.

Review of this one is WAY overdue. Have had this one for 3 yrs now and it's re-gained a spot in my bag. 15lber drilled pin next to ring, cg stacked, kept in box finish. Perfect ball for a heavy first shift shot. Ball glides through the heavy head oil and begins to rev. Seems to pick up speed and rev even harder as it approaches the break point, but doesn't snap. Just a hard, predictable arc that drives through the pins like nobody's business! High flush pocket hits just suck the pins off the deck and light off-pocket hits really send the pins flying everywhere. My favorite particle ball of all time! Thanks to G_thing for hooking me up with this winner. Excellent low-load particle if you can find one.
