# Description: Finally, Hammer is introducing a new price-point this year with a unique twist on ball motion. Our Hammer Razyr combines a High-Density 3-Piece Pancake core with our new Recoil Reactive high-performance veneer. This ball is the perfect solution for Hammerheads looking for an option on medium-dry to dry oil lane conditions. This is the most aggressive coverstock ever put in a 3-piece design. Razyr glides through the front of the lane but still makes a strong aggressive move where the bowlers want it - in front of the pins.

I needed a good dry lane ball, but I got a great dry lane ball. The Razyr works as advertised. I played right up/outside the first arrow and wow did the ball hammer the pins (no pun intended). The reaction of the ball was very predictable. don't let the price fool you. The pin layout is very straight forward, and it took no time for my local pro shop to have it ready to go. Bowled 225 out the box first game. It acts like a high performance ball in a entry level package.. This is a very good compliment to every bowler's arsenal. Another hit from hammer.

this is without a doubt the best dry lane ball i've ever seen/owned/thrown! due to the none existent core there is basically no track flare at all! this gives it fantastic stability but with a reasonable backend and still a very hard hit at the pocket!

i have to agree...our lanes have been dry, no hold when you left, seems like more hook the more left you move..the razyr allowed me to play 14-8 with hold if i tugged it or recovery if i missed right..and yes this is what a THS normally does for a bowler but ours hasnt been so typical latey...i am more than impressed with this ball...i thought i would lose hitting power and carry with this ball, uh...noway...pins flying everywhere...211 with split in 8th frame between strikes, 266 2nd game with 7-10 in 11th...258 with 2 ten pins last game...others were fighting the heads while i had no prob..great piece by hammer!!!

Had one drilled yesterday and tried it with one of the kegel easystreet patterns last night. In practice, every ball was a strike if I kept the ball right of 10 during practice. The ball must have GPS built in! I was amazed with how much the ball would move without a real core. I used it the first game, but ran into problems with the other bowlers pushing the oil out into my area. I can't wait to try this on burnt lanes. The traveling tournment I bowl this coming Sunday should be a good test as the lanes usually get fried by the 5th/6th game. I will update the first time I can use this on that type of condition.

I drilled my Razyr a couple of weeks ago for a 2nd shift league that is always tore to he11.  I drilled it as Hammer suggests and left oob finish on it.

This ball is very good for this purpose.  It clears the burnt heads no problem and still has enough energy to turn to the pocket.  Carry can be a bit iffy depending on the oil carry-down but hasn't been big problem for me yet.  Last week I left five 10 pins in 2 games with it.  Two of those can be accounted for by my poor release.

I threw this ball on a fresh THS to see what it would do.  It goes straight unless you get it outside the 5 board.  It could be used if all of your other balls got stolen or something but there are way way too many other options for fresh oil.

This ball has a very specific purpose in my bag as it should in everyone's.  It is for very dry or burnt up lanes period.

Hmmm, what to say about the Hammer Razyr. Well, I had it drilled for dry lanes, so I could play the cheetah. My rev rate (specs in profile) is  high and have trouble getting anything but a urethane 1985 red hammer down lane. Had it laid out 45x5 3/8x65. Took it to a burned up house shot. Got nothing I was looking for. The ball stands up and turns left when it hits dry. I ended up playing over 18 swinging to around 10. When you swing it far, it doesn't recover well at all. The ball hits hard, that is for sure. Will post new findings when I have a P1 hole put in or a hole up on VAL.

This ball is very good for its intended purpose, which is dry lanes.

I have had this ball for only a couple months, and I have been easy on it. It is not my only ball. I generally carry 3 to 5. And I rarely use the same ball for 2 games in a row, so it has been used lightly. I work at night, and have been bowling in a morning league where they do not oil. Wood lanes, well kept and clean, but dry as a desert. I bought it for this league, where everything else was over-reacting.

The Razyr is about the best of the dry lane balls I own, and worked very well on this surface, getting down the lane and giving a smooth and consistent reaction when nothing else would stay right of the headpin. A previous poster wrote about this being a very condition specific piece, and I agree. It likes dry, and works better the drier the lanes are.

My only knock on the ball - aside from the girly colors, which I can get over - is that it seems to be a bit less than durable. I have only owned the ball a short time and have played the ball fewer than 20 games total, at a house that is well maintained and is not exactly known for beating up equipment. My Razyr has taken a ridiculous beating, and has numerous scars, scrapes, and damage - some pretty deep. A ball with this few games on it just should not be this beat up, in my opinion. And it seems to take more and more damage every time I play it.

Overall, this is one great ball for dry lanes.  It gets down the lane easily, even when that is a problem for other balls, and it does not over-react.  But if you really like it, better buy several, because it seems to be too soft or too fragile for everyday use, and it apparently takes damage way too easily. If this were my only ball, I don't think it would survive half a season before having to be replaced.

My .02

Ball surface: OOB

Layout: Pin right of center of grip

Style: righty, medium revs/stroker

Ball Speed: 15-17

Lane Condition: Fresh THS, second shift/burnt track area

The Razyr for me is a must have in the tournament bag. It does what is meant to do, and more. One of things that surprised me the most was the carry and hitting power of the Razyr. With the simple weight block, mixed with the awesome cover, you can't go wrong.

Once this ball hits the dry it's ready to make a big move. As with any ball, friction equals hooks, so on true "dry" lanes you need to still make the right moves and play where the shot is. I've found at times it's a bit squirty or over/under, so you have to know when to put it away.

One thing I'm still yet to try, but plan on experimenting with is knocking the shine off of the ball. That should smooth out the reaction, and eliminate some of the jumpiness of it.

Overall I think the Rayzr is great to have in the bag to bail you out in those situations we all run into in tournament conditions. The carry and hitting power is way more than I expected it to be, and couldn't be happier with it.

Lane Conditions: Medium Oil
Typical Conditions: House Shot
Type of Lane: All Synthetic
What part of the lane did you play: Second Arrow
Did the ball track out: Normal
Weight of bowling ball: 14
Surface of bowling ball: Sanded
What grit was the surface of the ball? 500 Abralon

Dropped down to 14lbs and had a chance to get a VERY low games RAZYR for cheap, so I grabbed it. Had the "standard" RAZYR drilling and all I did was move the thumb a bit to adjust the span.

The ball was still in factory finish without a single scratch on it, and i decided to try it that way first. With the core/cover combo, it was far too over/under on our condition and, since I already have an older CLAW hammer for the really dry, I decided to alter the surface to see just how strong this ball COULD be. I started at 4000ab w/o polish and worked my way all the way down to 500ab. At 500ab, this ball can be STRONG, so I went back one more time with 4000ab OVER the 500ab just to smooth out the ridges and this seemed to work the best for me. It actually has turned my RAZYR into my medium/dry goto ball.

After the lanes go through their initial transition, I can pick up the RAZYR and move right a touch, going around the ball and sending it out into the dry, getting a smooth, strong, predictable reaction that hits and carries just as well as guys throwing $250 gravitys and cells. Thing is, I can continue to throw the RAZYR for the rest of the night while they struggle to keep their stuff right of the headpin.

For what it is, the RAZYR really is a great piece.

This ball needs to stay to the outside boards.  I was surprised how the ball can move to the pocket from that far away.  The ball won't recover from a throw with too much speed.  I seen the ball make a small swing on the outside boards 6 to 3 and get to the pocket without forcing a higher rev throw.  The ball has a very limited use if you can play/find a dry area.  This ball is very polished and may play to long I like a smooth roll to the pocket with a lower end ball. This ball seemed to jump late or opens if it hits oil after the break.

I'd like to know how the cover reacts to 2000/polish. I wonder if you can swing the ball a little or if the ball reads early and rolls out.

LANE CONDITION

Length: 39'

Volume: MEDIUM

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

COMMENTS

Likes:  Ball hits Great! Excellent roll. Good ball for me on medium conditions. I would recommend it for any one with a ball speed of 14mph or higher.

Dislikes: Hooks too early for me on dry. Had it drilled for drier conditions, but it turns about 4 feet earlier than i needed. I only have maybe 20 games on this ball due to my low ball speed, it doesn't get used much.

LANE CONDITION

Likes:Completely controllable on all surfaces except heavy oil. Does not over react on very dry lanes and it is a God send to anyone with lower ball speed....12-15 mph.  Have picked up my average 10 pins in 4 weeks...and bowling has become fun again.   I bowl 2nd shift on AMF laminate lanes and have had trouble with big engine balls that become hard to control when the heads dry out.  The Rayzr has been discontinued but Hammer should bring it back....it's that  good.

Dislikes: none
