Burn #1

Pin 3-4, Pin Down, 5 X 4.5, OUT OF BOX. The burn is definitely a fill for the Raw line. Those needing more flip of the turn will definitely get it. The burn Rolls easily down lane and makes a very quick and strong turn through the break. If you are rev dominate and looking for something to cover the boards on the house shot, this is a ball to consider. I played the burn on both the Viper and Chameleon. The could be used on both but held true on the VIPER.

As for house patterns of the dry... Make sure you are ready for the left turn that is coming when it reads the dry. Also reads the wet/dry of the 40 ft house pattern very well.

More to follow on Burn #2.

Absolute Cheetah Killer!
Shot 278,239,216 and moved 2 boards all night. I used my local Hammer Staffers ball as he has it drilled 4 inches from PAP with the CG shifted up and over but well with in the 1 inch square. The burn allowed me to play and maintain the outside area. As the Burn got to the dry, "Left turn Clyde!" For a ball to get down and turn with so much energy left for the pocket. Mark my words... this could be virtual trouble!!!!!

Layout 5 1/2 x 5.
Surface:  4000 abralon

The burn gives you that nice midlane read similar to the acid but really stands up once it encounters friction.  On the house shot it really shined when moving in and opening up the lane.  Everyone around you knows what ball you are throwing. This is definitely a great addition to the raw hammer line and a reaction that will not disappoint

Layout - 4 x 4.5 no hole
Surfaces tested - box

In box condition this ball is a hook monster. For me it has a small midlane read but for the most part it goes about 45 feet and makes a hard left turn. a couple of times I actually ducked because i thought it was going to come all the way around and smack me in the face. It is VERY strong with a 4" layout and when it encounters any kind of lane it can read, look out! It hits the pins very hard just like the rest of the Raw Hammers with the Assault core, but on this one the coefficient of restitution must be a bit higher because the pins literally explode. The carry is very good overall with messengers coming from what seems like everywhere.

With a ball that turns this hard through the pocket i would expect to leave a couple of 9 pins, and i did.. but most of the time there was a messenger coming from somewhere to take the legs out.

The ball responds to the lane transition fairly well. Its noticeable when the oil disappears from your line.. however a move left solves the problem. I would definitely NOT consider this in any way to be a dry lane ball. it does need a bit of oil to get down the lane and conserve any energy.

There is a lot of recovery available with this ball so you have to learn to trust it and just send it out there. on my THS coming in from the outside is a no no with this bad boy because it just moves too much.

The reaction out of box is like a combination of the midlane move of the Psycho and the strong back end move of the Hot Sauce. I have a feeling that this is going to become my favorite ball. It definitely gets attention not only from the color but also the look on the lane. during my last league session I had no less than 6 people tell me they wanted it.

Overall this is another great release from our friends at Hammer, and i think it fits quite well in the line along with the Acid and Psycho.

Drilled up my Burn last week, and have now thrown it on a couple of house shots, as well as Chameleon pattern in my PBA Experience league.

Drilled with the pin in the ring finger, CG almost in the middle of the grip.  After what I've been hearing, I expected this to be one of the hardest turning balls I've thrown.  To this point, I haven't really seen that, but have seen a pretty good overall ball.  The Burn is a bit smoother than I anticipated, but still a fairly angular piece.  If I slow my ball speed down a bit, and get some extra hand on it, I really see the exaggerated breakpoint then, but as I typically fight trying to keep from overthrowing the ball, I generally see a slightly more mellow breakpoint than most have been seeing.  It reminds me a bit of my Black Widow Venom, and is not quite as angular as my Hot Sauce was when I first got it.  Throwing the Burn on the broken down Chameleon, it looked pretty good giving it a bit of room to the outside, and made a nice charge to the pocket.  This may be an excellent ball for me to start with, and try to read the pattern as it does mark exactly where it runs into friction on the lane.  Looks like a great medium oil ball from Hammer, and a nice addition to the Raw Hammer line, which, I've found you can easily build an entire arsenal out of.

Drilled a Burn few weeks ago and have had many opportunities to use it and I have to say this is a GREAT ball.  Drilled with the pin about 2 O'clock cg just out of palm with no extra hole.  Being a fan of the Acid this ball is a great compliment to this ball.  Is longer than the Acid but not too much but has a much stronger backend reaction.  It is not as long as the Psycho but has the strong backend with a more consistent reaction.

This is a ball I would suggest for just about anyone.  I have a lot of ball speed 19 mph on average and it still picks up good in the midlane a problem I have a lot of times with a real shinny ball.

Other than the exotic color, the Burn rolls very similar but with more power than the Psycho. As a lefty with a pretty high rev rate and 16-18 mph ball speed, unless there is a flood of oil between 5-10, I have some difficulty playing the down and in lefty shot. I had my pro shop operator drill my Burn with the pin directly below the bridge of the fingers and CG 0.5" left and 1.5" above my thumb.

So some sort of an aggressive layout, but the cover allows my Burn to get through the heads clean. I've only used it on a medium oiled house conditions, so not yet sure how it will play in tournament competition or a PBA Experience condition. Nonetheless, if you liked the Toxic and the Psycho, the Burn is fairly similar but when it hits the pocket, it's surprising how powerful the Burn is.

Well, I've had this ball for about two months. I have bowled only two league matches with it because we have just started fall/winter league. I have shot 689 and 636. I know its not much to brag about but I have never had a ball with this much of a skid/flip reaction. I have pin just above my ring finger and the cg kicked slightly out and below that same finger. This ball is a left turn machine. I have had balls in the past with the skid/flip reaction but this one out performs them all. The recovery of this ball is insane. I had a few pitch-outs and this ball just came screaming back, whereas everyone else that got their ball out past 5 just rolled out and missed the headpin. Also, the pin action that this ball causes is awesome. I have never had a ball that causes this much chaos on the pin deck. I would rate this ball a 10 out of 10. It is the only ball I will use this year. In past seasons, i would carry 3 balls with me at the least. This year will be the first time i have ever walked into a center with just ball and be that confident to out bowl everyone on the lanes. I am so stoked about bowling league this year and it is all because of my new ball, the Burn.

It's been awhile since I have done this so let's see if I remember how to do a review:-)

First off I need to say thank you to Jeff Ussery for the opportunity to test out this ball. The promotional work being down out of the Hopkinsville plant is seriously appreciated by us small town folk :-)

Pre-drill specs:

15# 3 oz, 3-1/4 oz top and a 3-4" pin

Layout:
Decided on a RICO drill to replace my work out DOom drilled the same way. from all the  hoopla I saw surrounding this ball I figured it would be VERY close. Weights were returned to 1/2 oz positive side and 1/2 oz finger.

Surface:
Started with box finish then made some adjustments later on.

On-Lane Performance:
Oil pattern 1: Broken down house shot...our house pattern spans 38' to the end of the buff with a generous volume in the center (50+ units 15 to 15, 25 units 10 to 5 and 5 units outside) but with the open play and the hot temperatures, the Burn was even much ball even with the 4000 Abralon and polished surface. I just put the ball away and didn't try it again...I have a Lane 1 XXXL Buzzsaw for this crap :-)

Oil pattern 2:Junior Gold medium pattern...more blend than a house shot side to side and front to back. In the box condition the Burn had too much length for this pattern. The only shot I could get any consistency with here was to play the ball tight inside like 20 to 16. This angle left a lot of weak 10's. The Burn was very touchy at the breakpoint a very small error on my part made a very big error down the lane. So I took the ball back into the shop, and hit the  ball spinner. I quick once over with some water and a 2000 grit pad did the trick. I was able to move right and play more around the track area which gave me enough angle to take out the 10 pin consistently. The ball was still very sensitive to release and speed changes.

Oil pattern 3: Fresh House Pattern....while the ball performed well here around the track area, it still was not just what I was looking for. A quick email to my Ebonite sales rep and I got the piece of info I needed...told me to try 5000 grit and then repolish the ball. All I have to say is WOW!!!! This ball came alive for me. Yes granted the house shot is a wall but I found some forgiveness in this ball that I have not seen very often recently. If I pulled the Burn a hair, it sat but it didn't skate thru the pocket....it still had drive when it got there. If I pushed the ball wide it didn't just dart left...it picked up a roll and moved towards the pocket.

I cannot say enough about this ball now. Once I made the coverstock changes the ball has come alive. In fact, despite being a very firm Lane 1 man, I cannot put this ball down. It keeps getting better and better and better for me.

With proper release changes the ball will go from a mellow arcing reaction to a hard snapping ball that reacts like it was kicked towards the headpin.

I think this is the ball that Hammer wanted the Psycho to be.

I see the Burn being a perfect 1-2 complement to my pin over middle Psycho for most of my house conditions.

Thanks for reading.
