The Sting is probably the strongest ball in the Widow line giving the Bite a run for its money. But my Sting requires quite a bit of oil to hold line with the 1-2. So, if I keep the pores clogged, and don't take care of the ball after using it, it's destined to give you consistent and predictable motion.

Layout: 3" Pin located slight up and left of the ring finger. CG and Mass Bias are located left of center and directly aligned with the pin (you could draw the same vertical line through all three). Required a weight hole sligtly below my axis on the midline as with the CG. This ball is just so strong... Just gotta take care of the cover and keep it clean.

Hey I love this ball. It reminds me a lot of the Powerswing by Columbia 300. It just has more of a snap at the backend but still gives me that sanded ark look. It is really kind of hard to explain. This ball also has a lot of forgiveness inside and out especially when you tug it. I am a lefty and the pin is up and to the left of my ring finger. It goes long and makes a great hard turn back to the pocket. I have never thrown a Hammer ball, but I have always wanted to. Boy now that I have this ball I wish I did it along time ago. I have been a Columbia 300 fan for a very long time but hammer might be changing my mind, but we will have to see. This ball is great. Way to go Hammer.

Bowler Stats:
 275ish, 16-17mph, lots of sideroll

Ball Stats:
 15 lb  Drilled 4.75x4
 hit it with a fresh 2000 pad as it seemed awful shiny to me to actually be 2000

House One: This is an all synthetic house with a  39' medium volume shot.  Fairly decent amount of friction from the 5 board out to bump. Here the ball tends to read i little early due to the surface but still has a fairly strong in the midlane/backend department.  Works well when i want to play inside.  About 5-6 boards stronger on the backend then my Second Dimension

House Two: Synthentic front, wood backend   med/heavy-heavy volume.  Outside the 5 is normally out of bounds. This is where the ball shows its 2nd personality. It is alot more angular than almost anything else i seen being thrown currently. Here i can stand on the 8 board, sent it out to the three and it doesn't read the lane at ,due to the volume, until about 45 feet down the lane and then makes a pretty hard turn off the dry.  


In summary this is almost two balls in one. But if you are looking for a ball that is truly angular on some serious volume, drill one up.

I purchased this ball new and have been using it for about 5 weeks now. I am still very inconsistant with it. I know that this is my issue but like the bowler below mentions this ball is 2 in 1 I agree. I have noticed that this ball works very well in heavy oil patterns but once the lanes break down the least bit the ball reacts totally different. I am a new bowler so this may be normal. I like how it hits the pocket when I throw it correctly giving some heavy pin action but this may not be a ball for a beginner like myself. !!!!!!!!Update I bowled my first 300 game in League with this ball in April of 2010.  You have to stay aggresive with this ball otherwise it will not finish the way you want it to.!!!!!!!!

USED THIS BALL TODAY ON A 40 FOOT  8 TO 8 HOUSE SHOT THE BALL NEVER FINISHED.THE ONLY TIME IT SHOWED ANY LIFE IS WHEN THE LANES WERE BREAKING DOWN.ALSO TRYED THE NASTY A LITTLE MORE MOVEMENT BUT NOTHING TO MAKE ME WANT THIS BALL FOR HEAVY OIL.I THING HAMMER MISSED ON THIS ONE.

This is one awesome ball.Got one drilled from bowlers pardise.
 Pulled this ball out of the box.bowled a 300 the very first game
on9/14/09.This ball does exactly what it was billed to do.
 Keep these great balls coming.Hammer you are doing a great job.

Over all this is a great ball. at the end of last season my average was 125 now my average is up to 175 with a 238 game and a 515 series and i keep getting better every day!!!!!!!!!!!

STAY AWAY!!!  This ball is all hype.  Hammer continues to use the same technology and slap a diferent name on it. This ball is used up after 50 games.
I offered to take $10 to sell back at pro shop and was rejected.  This ball is a turd.  It dies very fast and react like a house ball.  STAY AWAY...STAY AWAY.  I say all of this having bowled my high game and high series but I am trying to give ball away and no luck.  Hammer is dropping and losing out to STORM.

Just got this ball recently but can't post an accurate review on it just yet because I had been too exhausted to bowl after a full week of putting the body through stress LoL. But I can say that I bowled the first 2 games of my 2nd shift league using Storm's Virtual Energy, and the lanes were downright destroyed, and every pocket shot with the VE left me too many corner and ghost pins, and splits, (just like all season long) so I pulled out the Sting for the first time at the beginning of the 3rd game and took the first 5 frames to find the right mark for the new ball, and as soon as I found it, EVERY pocket shot was a strike, unlike the Virtual Energy, finishing in the nice 210s, which probably would've been alot higher if I knew its mark from the beginning. So once I get the full grasp of what the Sting is capable of, I think Storm's products would make a great "sandbag" equipment for me for the following seasons to come LoL

I had this ball since the beginning of fall league and had already posted twice a 279 scores and my only fault not to get a 300 is because I always choked at that moment of truth w/c is 10th frame after a string of strikes. Maybe next time I'll get it, but other than that I love this ball because of it's great carry. For this ball, just slow down your speed when there's heavy oil and speed up when getting drier. Also, always keep it clean every time you use it.
I drilled mine like:
 oo     - pin place in the ring finger hole
   *    - cg 1 1/2 inch to the right
  o mb  -  2 inch from thumb

My other ball is JIGSAW which I'm still trying to find out the best lane condition to use. Still strugling because of thumb and grips.

I have drilled 2 of these so far.

Ball # 1 I used a 60 degree MB placement followed up with a 5" Pin to PAP and a 60 degree pin height. This places the Pin at 12 o'clock (or above the bridge).

The Sting has some killer backend reaction yet, still keeps going without losing energy down lane. I have found this ball to be way too strong on the conditions I have bowled on thus far, which is why my Burn has got a lot of work in lately.

Ball # 2 I used a 65 degree MB placement followed up with a 6" Pin to PAP and a 50 degree pin height. This places the pin at 11 o'clock.

This Sting is a much smoother even rolling ball with the layout and for me is the most preferred because this ball still has decent flare potential. On a medium condition I can play straight mostly and then chase it inside and not have to worry about the possibility of the ball burning too much energy up front.

If you seek a ball with the capabilities to have decent pop on the backend in the oil then I would highly suggest a Black Widow Sting.

old school ball but it rolls so smooth great piece but the cover burns up quickly
