Vicious
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
The Hammer Vicious was designed to be the most skid-flip ball ever produced by Hammer.  This was acheived by designing the all new PowerGrip reactive resin coverstock, which has a skid/flip rating of 32.  The core is a modified version of the Black 2001.  We modified the core with an outer, which allows the light weight balls to retain performance characteristics.  The outer core also allows us to increase the differentials, and with the addition of the pancake style flip block, the angularity of the Hammer Vicious is significantly increased.

Coverstock: PowerGrip SF32 Reactive Resin

Coverstock Rating: SF32

Core Type: Symmetric

RG: 2.51 (Medium)

Diff: .058 (High)

Mass Bias Rating: low

I just threw this ball last night for the first time.  WOW!!!  This ball is just awsome.  lanes started out medium to oily.  Played inside swinging out to 5 board.  As they dried out I just kept moving inside more while still hitting the 5 board and this ball just crushing the pocket.  Shot 279,210,244 731 Series.   Ebonite has done wounders with the hammer.  Look out guys hammer is back and vicious.

This ball overall so far I would say is great. I was really unsure of how this ball would work out on the shot that I was going to be throwing but, it gave me great confidence. This ball definately steps up to the challenge and is greatly versitile which I truthfully didn't expect either. Keep in mind this is an initial review and I haven't gotten to throw it that much yet. But, 213, 215, 233 total 661 for the night, not too shabby for the first time throwing the ball and a not so easy shot. The lanes started out oily and it snapped right in, the lanes dried out I moved in and it kept predictable and consistent. And the drive and carry of this ball is something I would believe you DO NOT have to worry about. This thing hits like a freight truck. The new Hammer so far has be sold, I'll see how consistent it stays through the next couple weeks on various shots and if it keeps a good track record I'll be reviewing the vicious particle. Hammer you have my business, great job, don't slouch, keep the great reactions coming!

I just punched out a Vicious for one of our power players. Ball speed 22mph plus...rev rate 500 plus. He needed a ball for that last couple of games of a six game block. Well...I think we finally found one.

With a 5inch pin to pap and 105 degree drilling we got great lenght and still retained a controllable backend. This ball floats through the heads and mid-lane even after they burn up. Hammer promotes this new Vicious as their best skid-flip ball yet and I must agree. A more positive drilling will give this flippy feeling.

A side-note. We got 5 1/2 of flare with a mild drilling......For high track players, pin placement should be above the fingers.

Overall this new Vicious will be highly recommended to our Hammer Heads with a high rev rate looking for a last ball of the night. The only drawback I saw was the high (.058) diff. Maybe to much flare for totally burnt lanes.

I have drilled 2 of the Vicious Hammers.
1 4 X 4 with an extra hole.I use this one mainly when the patterns are a little shorter with strong backends.Great reaction for this pattern.

the other is 4 X 3, this is the first ball out of my bag.Plenty of length with non stop backend hook.Hits like a truck.

Awesome balls.

I am in agreement Vicious is the right word for this ball.  Shot 300 3rd game out of the box.  I am amazed at how hard this ball hits.

I dissagree with the assessment of the ball. This is by far the worst particle ball I have owned. It doesn't react on anything but dry conditions.

I just bought this ball on Wednesday... All I can say right now is WOW!  This ball hits like a Mack truck and rolls the way I intended it via the stacked leverage weight drilling.  The ball goes long and turns nicely into the pocket.  If I tug it a little, it sits up and holds the line... if I get it out too far, it finds the dry and makes the turn without over-reacting or washing out.  For me, I need oil on the lanes for this ball to work... if the heads were a tad burnt, I had a little more trouble keeping the ball in line... I'm still working on the accuracy portion of my game..i.e. 3 board margin of error.  Anyhow, I have a feeling that this will be my ball of choice for my league bowling.  This and my Viper.

Thanks Hammer! Shot a 737 the second time out. Played thrid arrow on a very heavily oiled christmas tree pattern. Ball rolls nice and smooth, picks it up, and smashes the rack!
Drilled this one for myself, a righty, Pin @ 11 oclock, pin to axis 4 1/2 inches. Axis 4 5/8 and 3/4 up.
Rank this one a 9 out ot 10.

Ball: 16lbs, 3" pin out, 3.5 oz. top weight, factory surface. Drilled stacked leverage with a weight hole.

Me: tweener, 15-16mph ball speed, 90 degree side rotation.

Lane: wood, medium to heavy oil, fresh backends.

Played inside throwing to the 3rd arrow.  Ball snaps violently to the pocket, drives hard and carries very well!  Hits like a frieght train.

Excellent ball; you just have to know when to put it away (especially when the heads begin to dry out)

recieved mine last night and drilled straight over the label
2.5 inch pin and 2.4 onz topweight

Rolled a few games in practice on regular house pattern about 38 feet

found that it rolled up very smooth and hit like a train.   My games were 229 234 256 215  for a 934 series (not to bad)

This ball is great i recomend it for anyone who bowls and i rate it 10/10

After having really good results with my Black 2001 decided that the Viscious would be my next ball.  In short, I have never had a ball that snaps out the 10 pin as much as this ball does. I average maybe 2 ten pins in a three game series now.  I usually leave those on shots I don't get out of clean. Before I would average anywhere between 6-10 a night! REALLY! Now I have so many messengers taking it out I feel like I am cheating sometimes. I have had balls that I thought were hard hitters and carried well, but none as well as this ball.  I have seen other bowlers in my league throw this ball, and all but one has seen at least 5 pin raise in their average since using it. The only one that did not throws a somewhat a spinner shot, so there you have it.

Here are my results in leagues so far:

Before Viscious: 81 games, 16376 pinfall, 202.2 average.
Using Viscious:  48 games, 10871 pinfall, 226.4 average.
Total combined: 129 games, 27246 pinfall, 211.2 average.

Plus I have just come off my highest 3 game series ever, 269,279,269 for 817!
This was in a Christmas tourney so it is not reflected on my league average.

The ball was drilled with the pin about 2 inches southeast from my ring finger and drilled with a little length.

The shot I throw is, stand five boards left of center, roll over 18 board out to 8-10 and back.  The shot is walled up pretty much here but it has been that way for a while.  So even though its this way, I have went from a 202 average to a 211+ while averaging 226+ using this ball!

I have had this ball for about two months now and all I can say is WOW! This ball absolutely kills the pins. It is also very versatile. I have had success with this ball on all lane conditions. My average has gone up almost 15 pins since I started using this ball. This ball is also very forgiving, I mean if you miss a couple boards left or right it always finds it's way to the pocket for a strike. So if you're looking for a ball that will kill the pins, I recommend this one. I rate it a 10/10.

At first I didn't like this ball much, but with a few small adjustments, this ball has become one of my favorites. When the lanes start drying out, I can whip this baby out, move right, and rip racks all day long! (Oh yeah I'm LH). About a month ago, I shot 816 (279-279-258) with this ball. Out of 10, with 10 being best, the Vicious would get at least an 8. Good job Hammer!

P.S.- Ball is layed out w/pin out 1/2 inch from ring finger and 1/2 inch down, with CG straight down about 2 inches from pin. Small weight hole on axis.

This ball has truly made me feel that I cannot use a ball that everyone else loves. I picked this one up because I love Hammer and I read a ton of reviews touting how great this ball was. I drilled it 3-3/8" X 3-3/8", which may have been my downfall, because this ball was an absolute dog for me. I wanted to like it, I really did, but it was a piece of junk. On a medium shot this ball would slide about 50 ft before trying to make a U-turn and washing out 9 out of 10 times, with a 10-pin standing the other time. I tried scuffing down the coverstock a bit, figuring that would get the ball rolling sooner and tame the backend. Even though the scuffing only took the ball down one notch, that killed all of my backed, making the ball no better than a high-load particle. Now, I was messing around with my style at the time, so that certainly could have hurt the cause as well. I wouldn't mind picking up another, drilling it weaker and seeing what all the fuss is about. However, the first go around was so poor that I could give it no more than a 5 out of 10, (with 1 point coming just because the ball looked good. lol).

Just bought this new in the box from a guy who hated the other one he had drilled and just put this in the closet.  Had it drilled stacked with(3" pin) pin 4" from my PAP.  Ball was barely legal without the extra hole so I tried it just like it was.  WOW.  Bowled on a fresh shot with box finish and it was screaming.  I only average about 175 and first game with it was a 191......second was a 223.........third was a only a 181, but that was because of me and not the ball..........I didn't adjust quick enough and opened up 3 times.  I love the ball so far.  I was a hammer head when I first started to take up bowling.  I had since gone to Roto-Grip stuff............Hammer will be first out of the bag from now on.
