I got mine yesterday, and love it so far. I can't compare it to the Doom since I never had one, but I did do a comparison between it and my Break Pearl. Break Pearl is drilled 5" x 60deg, pin under. Psycho is drilled 4.5" x 50"deg", with a 1" buffer between the pin and my VAL. First, let me say, I've pretty much never owned a true skid snap ball (had a rampage, but it was just weak) so this was a treat anyways.
I found that on a line the Psycho would be striking comfortably on, the Break Pearl would be a couple feet earlier and hook a couple more boards overall, i.e. going high and leaving at least a 4 pin or something. For reference for those who do not have a Break Pearl, I would honestly say that my Break Pearl reacts exactly like the Original Infernos did. I was actually really surprised, because the Psycho actually made the Break Pearl look "smooth", while the BP so far had been a good hard arc for me. This isn't to say however, that the Psycho is uncontrollable.
That's the thing that got my attention. Most skid/snap balls I've seen are allergic to oil and love dry like nobody's business, but the Psycho was actually predictable. With pearls like this in the past, I've found that if you miss right, you can expect to go high since they'll go insane from touching dry. But the Psycho actually behaved normally, and would just miss right a bit. That is the thing that makes me really like this ball I feel I could use it on a sport pattern because it's not so oil sensitive. In fact, I'll be trying it out tonight on the Chameleon pattern.
Well, that's my preliminary post. Sorry for the length. I did have some video of it, but unfortunately lost my cable. If I manage to get to the store today, look for a quick vid (only a few shots).
