?? Onyx Vibe ??
« on: November 15, 2009, 11:20:12 AM »
OK let me start by saying I was thinking about getting one of these. But on my Saturday Night League A guy on the other team was using a Onyx Vibe. A righty with med. revs, with pin over and just slightly right of index finger.

What I saw was a very EARLY hooking ball, it would just get past the arrows and would start making its move, and this was on 40 feet of oil, freshly oiled lanes.

Is this normal for this ball?

My AMF Code would go 3/4s of the way down before it would make its move. Pin just under slightly to the left of index finger, Lefty. (for example)

where was the guy playing?

also the index finger is not drilled into the ball so using it as a reference for pin placement is useless.

You''re making invalid assumptions about a ball based on unknown variables, possibly not applicable to your game.
If you
- throw the ball at the same speed,
- use the same axis tilt,
- use the same angle of rotation,
- use the same number of revs,
- drill the ball identially to his ball,
- use the same surface as his ball has,
in other words, if you throw the identical ball in the IDENTICAL (not similar) way, then, and only then will what you saw apply to you.

It is not a early rolling ball.

correct me if im wrong...im still learning layout reactions but since the pin was over his middle finger this ball was drilled "negative" and depending on how much the CG is kicked it would produce a more even reaction

You have to remember the Onyx Vibe has the strongest cover they have ever wrapped around the Vibe core.  The drilling your speaking of would let the ball get down the lane before it picks up, but if it was sanded then it would read early as well.  I have one drilled 5 x 5 which put the pin above my ring finger and CG straight below and I knocked the shine off with a 1000 grit abralon.  This is easily 5 earlier read then my Emerald Vibe drilled similar and left Out of Box.  But like charlest said, there are a lot of variables you haven't filled us in on...but for my opinion, i think the strength of the cover has a factor in the early read you noticed.

I have gotten to use two different Onyx's lately and it's versatility is great. One has the pin above the bridge, cg kicked an inch right of center of the grip, OOB. Number two has the pin below the ring and the cg kicked out 60 degrees with a weight hole in the thumb quadrent on the VAL at 2000 AB. Ball one reminds me of the Original Widow with great length and a big move in the back while ball 2 reads the mids and make an earlier, stronger arc. With these two balls I think I could hit any THS execpt extreme flood, extreme burn. I can't wait to get mine.
