Dead widow what should i do

My brother brought his widow in november got it drilled aggressive and he didnt really like using it because he wasnt used to it he finally brought it back out and that ball would hit hard and break into the pocket with ease now its pretty much dead it wont break in the dry even if we try to throw it midland it hits weak now what can we do to get it back.

You might want to take it to the proshop as well and get it taken down to 180 grit to open the pores of the ball more and then try the soaking method.

Same thing just happened to me - so, brought it to the pro shop, he did an oil extraction and sanded it back to OOB - just like new.  Cost $25

The water treatment works wonders.  I did the same thing before last week league and my ball reacted even better than new.  I love my Black Widow

I just really can't see how the oil dry thing will work that great, I mean I work at a Diesel Mechanic shop and have unlimited access to as much oil dry as i need.

I will have to evaluate this one for myself.

Now when I use the hot water treatment, the ball comes back to about 85% in my opinion, depending on how many times you soak it over and over, to make sure all the oil is out, but that seems like it isn't such a good idea for the bowling ball. This is plastisizer is a interesting conecept.

so you say the best way to revamp your ball is by using the oil dry method. Is it as effective as the Hot water bath?

Try Denatured alcohol this cleaner gets all the dirt and oil out of the balls coverstock and brings back the tackyness back to the ball. I also have a BW I have about 65 games on it after bowling I take a damp cloth with DA rub it into the coverstock you will see how much dirt comes off the BW keep repeating this process until you see no more dirt and oil grime on your cloth. Also the tackyness will come back to the coverstock. Ball will hook like you had it before.

Just like acetone, denatured alcohol is not acceptable for use at anytime.  The only acceptable form of alcohol is Isoproyl (rubbing) Alcohol.

YOur not using it at the lanes the question was that the bw was not hooking and was also lacking hitting power mostly all pro shops use Da to clean their equiptment. I never said to use it at the alley I been cleaning my equiptment at home after bowling no crime in this process.

Reading the rules it clearly says "Not acceptable at any time."  The rules don't really say whether the "not acceptable" list is okay to use before or after competition.  

There are several bowling ball products listed on the "not acceptable" list, such as Ultra Clean - Tenth Frame, so it is possible that interpret that it is okay to use before or after competition.
