ACTION OR HAWG?
« on: February 19, 2006, 11:08:03 AM »
HELLO, NEED A LITTLE HELP DECIDING ON A NEW BALL, SPECIFICALLY FOR HEAVY OIL.
AFTER LONG CONSIDERATION AND RESEARCH, I HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO 2 BALLS: THE HAMMER HAWG AND THE COLUMBIA ACTION.

IM A TWEENER, 18-19MPH, NOT SURE ABOUT REVS, BUT I KNOW ITS IN THE 320-350 RANGE, SEMI-ROLLER; RIGHT-HANDED. I PREFER TO PLAY 15-12 AT THE ARROWS, OUT TO 10 OR EVEN 8 AT THE BREAK POINT. CURRENTLY BOWL AT AN ALL WOOD LANE ALLEY, BUT WILL BE JOINING A SECOND LEAGUE AT AN ALL SYNTHETIC ALLEY.

WHICH WOULD BE BETTER FOR MY STYLE FOR HEAVY OIL? OTHER SUGGESTIONS WELCOME. THANK YOU.

CURRENTLY USE:

STORM SUPER CHARGE
TROPICAL STORM(DRILLED FOR LENGTH, USE FOR SPARES)

SORRY, FAILED TO MENTION THAT THE SUPER CHARGE IS DYING OUT ON ME, TRIED POLISHING IT HOPING IT WOULD CONSERVE ITS ENERGY, DID NOTHING BUT SKID DOWN THE LANE; USED GREEN SCOTCH-BRITE, BROUGHT COVER DOWN TO ABOUT 500 GRIT, WORKED FOR A WHILE BUT IS NOW DYING AGAIN, I TWEEK IT WEEKLY TRYING TO GET THE MOST OUT OF IT, BUT DOESNT LAST LONG BEFORE IT STARTS DYING AGAIN. HAVE ABOUT 150 GAMES ON IT, STARTED DYING AT ABOUT 70. STILL WORKS GREAT ON MEDIUM AND LOWER, WAS NEVER GREAT ON HEAVY. WANT TO TRY SOMETHING NEW.

The Hawg is a true oiler, very low rg, agressive sanded particle cover.  However without many pieces of equipment, I doubt you need a true oiler.  Go with the action.  It is more versitile.  oob surface should match up well for medium to heavy, and if this is too much for what you want, it is very responsive to surface changes, hit is also very good.  Personally, I have seen better results from the Hawg Wild and the Road Hawg.  They handle less oil, but are stronger off the break point and tend to be more versitile.  The hawg wild should be about as strong as the road hawg(maybe a little weaker), but it will hook earlier and be less angular.

I Throw the Action and used to throw a super charge pearl ( loved the ball but cracked it out dispite not using grips), i have also thrown the Hawg a few times ( a friend w/ an almost identical hand we have the same pitches and span is 1/16 off)
well anyway

The Action and Hawg are both stronger (start sooner and cover more boards) than the super charge... of the Action and the Hawg i would pick the hawg... it rolls better for me in oil... also having a partical coverstock makes it smoother...

I have aprox 420 RPMs and 18 mph of the hand (C.A.T.S)  Hope this helps if you have any questions feel free 2 msg me

Hawg is Partical? Wonder how I missed that piece of news... maybe you are mistaken.

Anyways.. onto the answer...

The Action has more rev and mid lane action that the Hawg.  It also rolls harded on the back end and seriously hooks.  The Hawg is a long hard arc.  My brother rolls his Hawg on medium dry lanes, if that helps you at all.

The Hawg Wild is a better rolling harder hooking ball than the Hawg, but it is not exactlly for heavy oil.

Try the Action...  Drill is agresive and you won't be disappointed.

one more sugestion.

The EPX-T1 Out hooks all the balls I have even thrown in  my whole life.

Its a new epoxy shell technology.. they had a few crack, but its still very new.

Mine, however, is rolling great...

I put it in really hot tap water after 20 or so games and all the oil comes out, and is ready to use again...(Columibia actually tells yoy to bath it this way.) it is a new type of shell for heavy flooded lanes.

Drilled up an Action finally, and rolled it against my brothers Road Hawg.

Action rolls early and sets up and hooks really hard.  The Road Hawg went a little longer, set up and yanked hard.  The Hawg is not as strong as these two balls at all.

And the fact that the Action useds a very durable 1200 finish on its m80 coverstock speaks volumes... its reatice resin and performs easily as good as the partical and juiced reactive shell..

It is without a doubt the real deal heavy oil ball.
Go with the action.
