Razyr Hammer Drilling
« on: April 10, 2010, 10:54:33 AM »
I am a two handed bowler.  High Revs/slower ball speed.

What is your opinions?

Should I drill the ball:

1.  Pin position as on the drill sheet (only 1)
2.  Rico
3.  Axis Leverage with pin on my pap?

What reactions might occur?

thanks

I am also a two-hander, and mine is drilled as advised by the drill sheet. Like most other balls, the success or struggles you have with this ball depends very much on the surface prep you use. At the OOB 4000 w/polish, the ball was way too strong off the spot. It was probably the jerkiest, most-angular ball I had in the bag. I messed around with a few surface options before settling on 500/4000. That surface has been perfect for me as it gives the ball some push while still maintaining at least some read of the midlane. As such, the ball is smooth and strong throughout the lane. So, my advice is to drill the ball as the drill sheet indicates and then mess around with surface from there. If you want long and extremely strong, stick with OOB. If you want something a bit more controllable, consider 500/4000. Good luck.

Here is a link to a conversation on another forum that talks about maximizing the potential of balls with pancake weightblocks. It is in reference to the plastic balls used in the Mark Roth tourney, but is relevant for ALL three piece pancake weightblock balls.

Juggernaut is correct. There are drilling methods one can use to increase the dynamic properties of pancake weight blocks. However, again, I would caution against this. The cover on the Razyr is sick-aggressive off friction. Even with the pancake block, that ball went absolutely sideways off the spot for me in box finish, and I've seen it do the same for a friend of mine (another high-rev bowler). With you being a two-hander with slow speed, this ball could be hooking off the lane on you if you're not careful. So, again, I'd recommend going with the standard drilling and altering the surface to get the ball reading and bleeding a bit sooner. It will still be plenty strong, but then it would offer some manner or control/playability as well.
