Moving To Hammer From Storm
« on: December 14, 2007, 04:33:37 AM »
Hey,

My college team is moving to hammer equipment, and I'm having a hard time getting the reaction I'm looking for out of hammer balls.  I'm finding that hammer equipment is reading much earlier than storm stuff.  I'm looking for lay out suggestions that will help me get hammer stuff look like storm stuff (note every storm ball i have touched i have match up with).  I have tried altering the surface on things, looking more for lay out suggestions especially for the asymmetrical equipment, as I'm scared to drill up something using a 'Trick' lay out before hearing how it would affect ball roll.

From hammer i have thrown
NMB layout 1 5" pin up (to early even on heavy stuff)
BW layout 1 5" pin up (Usable on med to mid heavy, but never really a time that i wish i wasn't throwing something else from storm)
Anger 4.5" 75 degree pin down (early and continuous like a stronger Thunderstruck solid)
Toxic 5" 55 degree x hole 2.5" under PAP (both toxics roll really bad for me, and are very condition specific, got better at 1000 grit but then i really could be throwing something else)
Toxic 4.5" 75 degree no hole
Pure Hammer (black) 4.5" 90 degree (one of the best balls i have ever thrown, cracked out frown)
Switch blade - 315 degree layout (very mellow ball, like it alot)
Blue vibe 75 degree pin up (like it alot early and mellow)

Anyway, My PAP is 5 1/2" over 1" up Rev Rate 350, can very ball speed from 16 to 19 MPH.

Fav drilling 4.5" x 75 Degree sometimes w/ a hole 2" under PAP

if you need any other info msg me!

If your on a college team I would talk to your coach. Its seams odd that you have a high track and stuff with 4 1/2 to 5" pin to paps and it reads too soon. Assuming your using the correct degree system. You also might want to try changing the strength a bit. Use 30-45deg layouts instead of 75.

Thanks for the help, I will talk to my coaches about using 30-45 degree layouts, and I may try a 6" pin-pap.  Why does it seem odd that I can use 4.5-5" pin-pap distances and have it read to soon?

Myser I was looking at your arsenal and why do you not have the 2 best balls we make.

Black Widow 4 1/2 by 90 degrees That ill get you down the lane and be angular off the spot.

Black Widow  5 by 70 degrees.  That will get you even farther down lane and be smoother off the spot.

And for smooter reaction and more length yet.  Try the Widow Pearls.

Here on our house shot alot of people like there Angers with some polish.

With those 5 balls you should not need anything else.

just my opinion
