"hybrid" coverstock?
« on: March 20, 2009, 02:36:56 PM »
Did Hammer ever come out with such a coverstock( 1/2 solid and 1/2 pearl)? or will they make one in the near future?

The Storm Hyroad appeals to me but I rather have a Hammer. Like A Vibe with "hybrid" coverstock.......that will be my dream ball.

I really think hammer ought to release a hybrid sauce and possibly a hybrid vibe. i think with all the success i've had with my storm hybrids i would be willing to give a hybrid hammer a chance.

hybrids are great because they hook like a solid, but carry like a pear. i think ebonite will create a hybrid if the market dictates it (which seems to be happening)

I do not believe it has anything to do with what the "market dictates", unless you look at it solely from a marketing perspective. ABout 60% of the time a hybrid coverstock was put on a ball, it was not advertised to be that by the company. Storm, with the Hot Rod Hybrid, the Sure Fire Hybrid, the Hy-Road and others, is one of the few companies that took advantage and did use it in their advertising. Track 5 or so years ago, Dyno-Thane, 900Global and AMF, did not really even tell the user that this was the case. Sometimes they did, but just down in the specifications where most people hardly looked.

The main reason hybrids are used is to get a specific ball reaction. And it does work.

its the same thing as how companies now will never tell you if it has particle in it because particle no longer sells well.

bet most that bought the blue vibe didnt know it has particle in it even though hammer said just "reactive"

its all about marketing and getting the desired ball reaction.

storm was smart because their t-road balls were very good and already had a solid and pearl but there was a gap. it was genius to just say we combined the two into one ball and filled the gap this way. instantly people didnt need an explanation that the ball reaction would be like getting the best of both the solid and the pearl.

really most of the balls today are mixes of things to get that reaction the said company is looking for. its all about marketing not the simply the best ball. look at the virtual "miracle" i mean gravity everyone seems to own one even in medium conditions regardless of rev rate. why? it looks impressive. bingo! lots of balls moving off the shelf.

if people are told they are getting the latest technology they will buy it aka CELL.

etc

etc...

there is one thing though that is not a variable in the bowling equation. you still have to throw the ball and throw it correctly. no ball helps with that.

just buy based on reaction... not what someone tells you it has or does.

I could never understand why bowlers are so against particle coverstocks?

Many of the balls on the market today most likely have some amount of particle in them.

The Storm Pardiagm, an awesome bowling ball, has a small amount of particle in the coverstock but it's called reactive.

The other post reply mentions the Blue Vibe as another ball that has some amount of particle in the coverstock.  The BV is one of the best balls ever made in my opinion.

Track's Animal was another great bowling ball that had a large particle load.

So I just don't understand why bowlers are so against particle coverstocks.

Technically, Ebonite already used hybrids without calling it specifically a hybrid. The Total NV used a "hint" of pearl for "shelf appeal" accourding to Ron Hickland. Will they ever do a pure 50/50 hybrid? Who knows, but I don't think so.

I think an Acid/Psycho combo would be much more effective.
