Title: Anyone polished their BWB ?
Post by: Neptune66 on February 29, 2008, 03:06:07 PM: Just curious. Has anyone polished their Black Widow Bite to delay the reaction a bit? And if yes, were you happy with the result?

Mine's still in OOB conditions, and HAVE had some very good games (for me) ....269, 278, 249. But some real stinkers too. The ball is fantastic on fresh oil, then after the 1st game it has to go back in the bag. Am thinking a little polish would allow me to stick with the BWB further into the night's match.

Post by: Mr Hurt24 on March 01, 2008, 09:28:24 AM: Ive played with my Bite as well and found that putting it at 2000 was the best move for me..Out of the box condition made the ball burn up off the dry and when i put polish on it, I got more length but the backend reaction at times was uncontrollable..

Especially since I mistakenly used the word polish.

I do understand that the higher grit numbers give the surface a shinier appearance and result in more length. But I didn't know how to quote specific numbers, so I said "polished".

He's a high rev player and boy the polish really seemed to make his Bite
shine!!! Last 4 sets have been between 675-711. If you're not needing
this ball to read early or for use on heavy oil, polish looks to be the
way to go.

Post by: JVan19 on March 03, 2008, 11:01:54 AM: I have my Bite polished and it works very well on fresh house shot. The ball is very smooth thru the front end and the ball has a nice controlled arc into the pocket. I just bowled in a tournament over the weekend and I started out using my BW Solid the first two games of team on Saturday and by the end of the second game the ball was not getting the carry as the oil started to move. I picked up the Bite the last game of the team event and I played down 10 and the Bite was getting to the pocket and just turned the corner harder and the carry came back.

On the doubles and singles from yesterday I played the same thing, BW Solid the first game and until the 4th frame of the second game. Used the Bite to finish doubles and then all three games of singles with great success. 668-656-690.

I play down and in so I just had to play from around 8 to 12 and the ball was just rolling and then hard arc into the pocket. This ball has great carry and was forgiving if I pulled the ball inside it held high pocket.

The ball with polish is very controllable and it still hooks and hits just as hard as if you left the ball OOB.

I'm going to wait awhile before I polish or change the finish at all, but glad to hear the ball still responds well afterward. In the meantime, I am using my Bite more for early games vs later ones with more success.

Originally I was doing the reverse (saving it for later games as a sort of go-to piece) and it would actually throw me off by causing me to increase speed too much.

Post by: mikesxrs on March 03, 2008, 09:18:13 PM: i polished mine when i first got it, mainly because i cant throw anything at 4000. i polished it at 4000 and it went real long and turned real hard. so i brought it down to 1200 and havent adjusted it since its a great ball once my double agent starts to hook to early

Post by: agroves on April 29, 2008, 06:13:30 AM: I have two Bites. I drilled a second one and keep it polished. They are a great one/two combination. The shiny Bite won me mucho cash in Albuquerque.
