BLue vibe
« on: April 03, 2009, 12:22:21 PM »
i have a blue vibe im looking to make it my dry to medium oil ball. i want something with smooth easy backend something i can play like up 10 with.
i was looking to drill it 70-5-70 do u think this will be weak enough?Because all my ball seem to be over reacting with my rev being higher with slower speed everything seems to go high.
STATS
speed-16
rev-350
tilt-little
rotation-little
pap-4 1/4 -> 0 up or down

I might even consider a pin on axis drilling. By putting the pin on your axis you effectively take the core out of the ball and reaction is dictated soley by the friction of the cover. With higher revs and slower ball speed you should still see some good reaction but it won't overreact like your other stuff seems to. Plus a longer pin, though weaker, will store energy for the backend. And when you play straighter like up ten, you can get some really bad angles going, and then you are just chasing the reaction in until the angles get better....

Don't take this as a slam, it's not, just an honest question.

I read a lot where folks say, X drill will take the core out of it, then my question is....why not get a ball for that, not drill a ball, just to take out the core reaction ? If that core reacts the way you don't want, but good cover reaction, then find a ball with weak to no core reaction and adjust the cover to do what you want ?

Just askin'.

The reason is because plastic and clear balls do not have the same covers as reagular reactive balls. Plastic will hook a little bit if you have enough hand and the lanes are dry enough. We saw this with the plastic ball tournament where they only could use plastic and the pattern was short with half the normal volume. You could easily take a White Dot or whatever and sand it to 1000 and get it to roll a little. But a pin axis drilling will give a good coverstock to start with and you wont need as much surface. Plus with a plastic ball the hook will still tend to be on the backend, not exactly what you want when you are a high rev player trying to go up the boards. Pin axis gets the ball rolling the whole way down the lane but it is very gradual....

I know about the differences between plastic and reactives. My point is, why not take a Scout, or a Jazz, or a tornado, others, that's what I was getting at, unless you are a pure hammerhead, then I understand.
