Title: Axe Issue
Post by: HavelockBowler on December 12, 2011, 02:39:12 AM
Was wondering if anyone is having the same issue with the Axe that I am.  Bought and had an Axe drilled up at Nationals in April, fingers started to crack and chunk out after very few uses.  Ball was replaced by Hammer and had the ball drilled up less than two months ago.  This ball is doing the exact same thing.

Am thinking there are issues with the way the ball is being made.

That was nice of them to do that for you. Storm would NOT do the same for me.
I doubt if Hammer will do it twice, but they could.

In any case, this is quite common with polyester balls. You might consider doing what I did: have your driller plug up the fingers and then, redrill them. This will or should last much longer because most plug work is done with urethane, not plastic/polyester and not resin. Urethane is much longer lasting than either of them. If your driller is good, the matching of color should be pretty good but never perfect.

Make sure there is plenty of bevel on the finger holes of any polyester ball you have drilled. Some might still crack a bit but not a ton. I still see some drillers put zero bevel on fingers and with polyester balls it will probably crack/chip away within 20 throws.

We will ALWAYS stand behind the warranty on our products.  Contact me at jussery@hammerbowling.com for help.  It is common though for plastic balls to fracture around the finger holes, particularly if too much glue is used or if the drilled edges are not beveled.

Thanks Jeff.  I have been in contact with Bob Burst about it.  The last I spoke with him, he was shipping another ball to me.
