Hammer's New Stuff - Mini-Reviews
« on: May 25, 2010, 03:25:01 PM »
HEY HAMMERHEADS!

Once I get my computer problems completely fixed, I'll be able to post some pictures for you of how I have laid out the new stuff; however, until then, I can only state my thoughts.

Jigsaw Trap

Layout: 70x5x60 - Pin at 12 o'clock above bridge, almost drilled into MB area.

First Impressions:

This ball definitely gives you a lot of length, more than any in the series thus far. One of the better things is that the Trap is more predictable in motion and does not tend to squirt down lane like the original did for me. Comparing to the Corner the Trap goes a few feet longer down and gives more angular reaction. I believe the Corner could cover more boards overall than the Trap and is best when the Corner starts to bleed energy up sooner.

The Plague

Layout: 60x4.5x60 - Pin Above Ring Finger, MB just to right of thumb. No Weight Hole.

First Impressions:

Holy cow! This ball can cover some boards and for me I've never been able to play the left gutter cap to the right gutter cap CONSISTENTLY like I've been able to with the Plague. Playing gutter to gutter and hooking the lane is NOT my "A" game by any means; but, it is a confidence builder to know that if all of my other equipment cannot make the turn because there is still a tad bit more of a puddle in the middle than what I think is there that I can go to the Plague and it is going to recover for me. A lot of ball surface, and a lot of ball motion means really decent arc with the Plague. Real interested to see how this one plays out when I get some more games on it.

Hardcore Hammer GRIND

Layout: 5" Pin above the Fingers. Pin at 12 o'clock with CG slightly kicked out. No Weight Hole needed.

First Impressions:

I could easily recommend completing a 3 ball arsenal with this one. Jacked, Grind, and your friendly neighborhood spare ball and you can work wonders on a league shot. Decent length downlane with a smooth arching motion for myself at the breakpoint. I like how it is NOT as jumpy as the BURN. For me, the BURN would just go left right off the friction. The Grind gives you a lot of mistake room as well. Could definitely work out as that "benchmark" ball in the bag when every other ball you are uncertain about.

Midnight ViBe

Layout: Same as GRIND

First Impressions:

This ball goes really long and makes you think it is going to keep on going and then...POP goes the backend. With the pearl injected into the Shredder cover, you can easily see the difference between the Burn and the Midnight Vibe...for those of you that thought the BURN had a unimaginable amount of length, put your hands into a Midnight ViBe and you'll see that more length down lane and killer angularity on the backend is possible.

Overall thoughts:

If you put the Trap, Plague, Grind, and ViBe in a 4 ball arsenal along with a spare ball...I feel great knowing I have a complete arsenal of weapons that will give me 4 completely different ball motions..that in itself is a confidence builder on the lanes during league for myself. This is really good stuff coming this year from Hammer.

God Bless You All! Any questions, feel free to PM me. Thanks!

Joe,

When you say "how much ball?" what are referring to? Overall hook or overall amount of backend reaction? Thanks!

Joe,

The Midnight ViBe for me has less overall hook potential than a Onyx ViBe but more than a Razyr and both Backlash balls.

This ViBe has the most length out of any in the series but has the most angular reaction than any of them. It compares in length with the Emerald but is definitely has a lot more backend reaction off the dry. Hope this helps. Thanks and God Bless!
