Hammer coverstocks and Sauce core
« on: September 05, 2009, 02:41:18 PM »
I haven't thrown Hammer in many years, but am looking at several right now. With normal maintenance, any issues with ball death in either the Sauce or Raw lines?

Also, Hammer's web site says the Sauce is low mass bias non-symmetric. I usually only throw symmetric. Anyone know the MB rating?
Thanks in advance

The Sauce and Hot Sauce Pearl don't have a marked Mass Bias, so if there is a rating I would say it is very low/doesn't effect the ball motion. I own mostly all Hammer stuff, but with normal maintenence/resurfacing I haven't had a ball "die" on me.

Drill them like any symetrical ball and have at it. As far as so call "death", just maintain like any other ball and will have a long life.

Just watch out for the Acid, in the Raw Hammer series, it has the same coverstock as the Anger had on it.  A lot of hook, but really high maintenance, and after about 50 games, the coverstock is dead, and you won't be able to get the old reaction back.

backbr.... I have thrown my Acid about 200+ games as that is my benchmark ball on MOST patterns that I bowl (house shot, PBA patterns, Kegal patterns, etc...) and my ball has not died at all... If you maintain your coverstock (Ebonited Energizer) and Abralon pads, you can prolong the life of any ball.

I think that the Sauce is much stronger for the heavier medium to oily patterns if you are looking for, but the Acid is prolly the best benchmark ball which you can alter the surface for any conditions that you may see. I have used the Acid on drier lane patterns with a little polish and I have used the same Acid on oily lane patterns by sanding the ball at 1000.

I hope this helps you out with your decision as you really can't go wrong with either ball. Good Luck!!

I also have a Hot Sauce, oil extracted one time. I haven't had it resurfaced yet, but have sanded it down to 1000 Abralon.  It has over 150 games on it including PBAX and house shots.  No dead ball whatsoever!  Still hits like crazy and has a great smooth reaction.
