A little background: the house for my wednesday league decided this year that they are not going to oil after the 5pm four person league before us finishes their set. Needless to say, the shot is a bit toasty, and I have been struggling with my Black Widow.

So this week I purchased a BWP. My first game threw the first 7.... left two ringing 10 pins and shot a solid 259.  The shot began to break down and the ball became too snappy. Shot about 200 for the last two games. When I tried to swing the ball at all (even at the 40 foot point), it burned up badly and left a 10 pin.

I throw about 16.5 to 17 mph, 250 to 275 rpm, very accurate. The BWP is drilled with pin slightly above and slightly right of ring about 4" from the PAP. A 4" to 4 1/2" pin works well for me. The MB and CG stacked, 3" pin.

I really loved the hit and length of the BWP. I was able to move inside of ten, play a firm shot with a little bit of belly, and have planty of hit. However, I think that I still need something mellower than the BWP once the shot breaks down. This BWP got too early and too angular when the lanes transitioned.

I am looking for ideas so I can get enough length to stay around 10 to 15 at the arrow and around 10 to 12 at the breakpoint. My ideas were:

1. Another BWP: pin directly above ring, and with the MB below the thumb.

2. Another pearl of some nature that symetric and smoother, drilled about the same as the ball listed above.

3. A Tropical Storm, drilled medium strong.

Any thoughts? thx!

4. Was also thinking of another BWP with the pin above the ring and the CG kicked right at 45*  --- would that mellow it out in ther backend?

Thanks!

Kicking the cg, more importantly the mb, out further to the right would definitely tame the backend shape down a little bit, but I wouldn't look past the 2nd option on your list there, some other pearl, maybe symmetric, that's just not as strong. the BWP has a super strong cover, so what i'd be afraid of is not enough separation between the two of them. a great choice might be the toxic or doom. would definitely be less overall, would provide decent backend/hit for you, but not TOO much. let us know what you do!

Nope, not Holiday Lanes; it's Plaza Lanes in Plymouth.
