is the arson the first hybrid hammer?
« on: May 24, 2011, 09:16:19 AM »
i know that hammer is advertising the arson as a hybrid coverstock but the plague and infection were also known to have a two parts pearl/ one part solid coverstock and i believe the taboo had the same mix. can someone from hammer tell me if there is something different about the coverstock formulation that is different about the arson from the other three balls that i mentioned?

The old Turbo Diesel was also a "hybrid" of 50/50 solid to pearl.

Most times, people mean a 50/50 split of solid to pearl when they describe coverstocks, but there have been a few like the Plague and the Infection that have been 2/3 - 1/3 mix. Roto-Grip is the only one I know of who has acknowledged that their hybrids have sometimes been 2/3 - 1/3 solid-pearl OR pearl-solid.

I've been curious about a few other Hammer pieces, too - the Swagga and the BW Sting. They both look to be a mixture of pearl and solid. Of course, looks can be deceiving in these matters, so I am hoping that somebody can answer this definitively.

I left out  the Swagga because it's a TNBA specific ball, not available to everyone, though Buddies is/was selling it.. It is also a Level 2 Reactive like the Plague so I believe it is also a pearl/solid combo (2/3 pearl, 1/3 solid).

There's a difference between "performance" pearl and "appearance" pearl. The balls you are referring to from the past had a appearance pearl in them for looks only. To make the ball "jump" off the shelf. The pearl additive in the Arson as well as other performance pearl balls (BW pearl, Venom, Burn) is different (to my understanding).

This being said...the Arson IS Hammer's first true hybrid ball.

We have been using "hybrid" covers for a while now just this is the first time we have referred to the cover as hybrid. The term hybrid seems to be catching on and did not want any confusion as to what the cover was made of from now on. Hope this helps to clear some things up.

Infection is 2/3 pearl and 1/3 solid and Taboo looks to be 2/3 solid and 1/3 pearl. Since not full solid or full pearl they would be considered a hybrid.
