polishing a jigsaw
« on: October 01, 2009, 06:49:34 AM »
Just got a new Hammer Jigsaw. have polished it and it reacts much better. My question is.. Can you polish it too much? Will it hurt coverstock? Should I polish it every week before I bowl?

Just put polish on the ball when you notice that it has worn off the ball.  You do not want to kill the reaction. Just keep good mainetance on the balland you should be fine. Does your house have a little more volume of oil?

Do you polish by hand or by a spinner?  My brother used to have to polish some of his stuff, when he did it by hand he would have to polish it probably twice a month, when it was done on a spinner the surface lasted much longer.

My experience: Too much polish causes enhanced sensitivity to wet/dry and therefore increased unpredictability. But of course all other things are important: ball, coverstock, etc. etc.

My jigsaw didn't do much before I polished it, then it became a beast.

I would just keep an eye on it and once it starts looking dull and losing its shine or reaction try polishing it again.

What polish did you use?? How high did you polish it 1500, 2000, 3000 or 4000? Did you change the surface before you polished it or just apply it to the OOB surface?? How is your ball laid out and how did polishing change the reaction?? Does the ball seem to work better polished or with the OOB surface?? I have a jigsaw and am thinking about polishing it. It is laid out for long and strong with the pin raised up 1.5 inches or so for more backend( similar to hammer recommended layout#1, The picture in the middle looks close) but is too smooth.

Pin on my new Jigsaw is right above fingerholes. i polished it in a spinner on level 1 one week and it made no difference. Next week I polished it in spinner on level 2. Ball reacted much differently. Went much longer before finding break point. Could play much straighter and more outside. Still hit very hard!
Coverstock before polishing was oob.

If you wanted a ball to go longer and to play more outside, then a Jigsaw should not have been your first choice. You bought an early rolling strong cover and expected to see it have a bunch of backend.

No, you cant polish too much and it wont hurt the cover. It will however make the ball go longer and have less response in oil the more you polish it.
