Black Widow and Weight Hole
« on: September 27, 2006, 04:19:09 AM »
Hello all, just a question.  I have a Black Widow and it's layed out exactly like this: http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3411795

Only difference is my CG is offset to the right of the MB rather than to the left like the one in the picture.  This made it so I ended up with just under 1oz of sideweight, so no weight hole required.

The flare I get on the ball is about 2-3 inches.  If I added a flare increasing weight hole, will I see more reaction out of the ball or will it give cause for more roll out/burning up?

If you are only getting 2-3 inches of flare, then I would go with a flare-increasing weight hole.  A ball generally doesn't flare too much until you see the rings start to overlap.  If the ball does "burn up" after adding the hole, then a surface adjustment is needed.

wow 2-3 inches of flare only i am happy i didnt have to put one in this ball when i owned it i would have had a problem of flaring the hole

you can try to put a hole below your pap on your val make it big in diam and not too deep should add another inch or 2

Okay...ill bowl with it a couple more times.  I think I finally got the thumb hole to where I want it, so we'll see if the flare increases with a cleaner release.  I was hanging a lot the first day I bowled with it.  If it doesnt change, I'll ask my driller for more flare.

I have a black widow that I had drilled a couple of days ago. Its has the exact same drill in the picture, except maybe the pin, cg, mass bias are lined up better. I assume you want the ball to handle a little more oil, or get into a roll a little earlier. Do it, you'll love it. I threw a 267 the first game out with it. It handles a nice amount of oil. I'd say medium/heavy. I don't have a need for my pain now. I have a heat blast (symetric) with the same drill and I use it for medium/light. I threw it without the weight hole first, decided I needed a little more flair, put one in and took the shine of the ball. Right now its my first ball out of the bag along with my doom and then my Black widow. 2cents
