Black Widow Bite - Layout Suggestions
« on: July 05, 2008, 02:54:52 AM »
HELLO TO ALL HAMMERHEADS!!

I've got a Black Widow Bite that I'm plugging and refinishing. Point of the topic is LAYOUT SUGGESTIONS. I've already tried 2 layouts on a Bite that I had before with not a whole lot of success. PAP is 4 1/2 right by 1/2 up.

First Layout: 45 degree Mass Bias, 3 3/4" Pin Above the Ring Finger. Weight Hole 5" over from mid-line.

For me, this was absolute burn up due to the close Pin to PAP location along with a strong mass bias to boot. A lot of energy used up front and not a whole lot left for the backend.

Second Layout: 45 degree Mass Bias, 5 1/2" Pin Above the Middle Finger. No Weight Hole required.

For me, this helped out because it eliminated the burn up but I feel the pin placement was too long because I've never been able to get consistent ball reaction with pin placements this far from my PAP.

So now, I come to all of you guys for suggestions as how to lay this one out. I'd like to know reaction shapes, layouts, and surface alterations (if any) as both of the layouts were used with 4000 Abralon. Thank you for your suggestions in advance! God Bless You All!

What lane conditions are you looking to use this on? Are you settled on the 45 degree layout?

NtheDitch,

I'm open minded about any Mass Bias positions. As far as condition, I bowl on your basic THS. Hope this helps! God Bless!

Well my suggestion would be about 4 1/2 with the mass bias closer to the thumb to save more of it for the back end. Your still going to need to match surface to conditions. And this distance wont make it go too long. Just my opinion. May want to wait on the experts. lol

Mine is 4 3/8 pin/pap, approximately 55 degree MB, no wt hole. Cover to 2000 Abralon then a VERY light hit with white SB pad. Not sure if the SB pad really did anything but mentally I feel better about it. I'm more a VERY small swing but more comfortable down and inner, so this may not help you at all.

Drilled 2- 4 1/2 pin/pap, MB 50 degree one wt hole other not, both guys swing, one more than the other and they say they both love the balls. Both covers were changes to 2000, no polish.

Drilled one with pin/pap 4", MB 45 degree, small wt hole with cover to 1000. I haven't seen the guy throw it and he bowls in another town so sorry, not much help but he hasn't called to complain. His house usually sees heavier oil than I see, but that's the way he wanted the ball, so that's how he got it.

Not sure if these helped but those are the ones I've drilled or owned.

I have one polished with a 5" pin to pap, 55° mass bias pin down and a weight hole down my val 2" (IIRC).

With the polish its a very strong but not uncontrollable or unusable reaction on a THS from what i've experienced.
