Pain and doom around my BW?
« on: September 14, 2006, 10:23:32 PM »
Im considering getting a pain AND a doom, would both balls drilled stacked leverage, or at least the pain stacked, & then the doom skid snap, fit around my BW?

My BW is drilled label & lightly shined over the OOB surface.

I think a Pain>BW>Doom setup is perfect IMO.

Pain= Med/Heavy
Widow=Med
Doom= Med/Dry

Depending on how much hand you put into the ball, the Doom might be too much for the really Dry conditions.  In that case, get a Vibe.

Well, u also have to remember i have a shined BW, drilled label.  The pain, i would more than likely get drilled stacked leverage, so the drilling will have a lot to do as well.

Although, what makes u think the zilla is that much better?  Considering its about $50 more overall.

Do you play straight down and in?  IMO stacked leverage works best when I'm squared up and playing straight down and in.  When lanes are drier and I have to swing the ball, I start to leave 2-10's or buckets on bad shots (either less hand, more speed, missed right).  For swinging, I prefer a 5x3 drilling with the pin under my bridge and a low weight hole.  This gives me more recovery when I miss.  I drilled a Pain for my brother like this.  He starts in at 4th arrow and he gets a real good reaction from it.  He had 750 the first week of bowling.  I have nothing against stacked leverage, but people tend to throw it around as the best way to drill anything for anyone.

it handles a lot more oil than the Pain will even though the Pain is still suited for med to med/heavy conditions.  If you had an OOB Widow drilled stronger, then I would have told you to get the Zilla.  I guess it just depends on how often you see a lot of oil.  If your BW in its condition is covering a lot of boards for you already, then the Pain will fly smoothly.  Though I agree that if you want to be prepared, then the Zilla is the way to go as it can handle more of the heavier conditions including the ones suited for the Pain.

I just got a BW and have a Pain and Dooms.  This is a great arsenal of reactions.

I have not thrown the BW yet but have seen it in action a few times.  The ball has a big backend and can handle some oil.  Not only is the backend strong but it's smooth, which is good for tough patterns.

The Pain is freaking awesome.  The  more I bowl with this ball the more I like it.

The Doom!  Well most of you know how I feel about this reactive pearl ball.  Amazing!

I would put these 3 balls up against any on the market in there catergories.

To answer your question.  Yes these balls would fit perfect with your BW.

Its not too bad a choice for a three ball arsenal.  Although oob I do believe that the Pain will be stronger than the Widow, I doubt that there will be that large a gap and the gap that there is I would attribute to the lower oob surface grit of the Pain, as compared with the Widow.  At the same grit I figure that its pretty much a toss up between the two.  I figure that the Zilla, a Widdow and a Dom would probably offer better gaps and allow you to cover pretty much any lane condition outside of burt to a crisp.  If you decide that you won't run into heavy, that the heaviest oil you will se is somewhere in the med/hvy range then go with what your thinking, just perhaps give the Widdow a light coat of polish, or compound finish.
