Alrighty.. I'm going to make another one of those comparison threads, and per usual it is against an overseas ball. This time, I'm pitting the to-be released BW Legend up against the Black Widow Insanity, which was released in June 2014.

The TL:DR of the ball: Deadly Aim coverstock, Gas Mask core, 2000-grit Abralon w/Clean'n'Sheen.

They compare it to the BW Assassin, which this ball is at least 3 boards inside it, with a lot more recovery in the backend over the Assassin. Now, granted, their BW Assassin is 1000 Abralon and polished. The one released in the USA is 500/500/500/1000 Polished, so there is a bit of a difference.

Their BW Legend is the same as ours, except theirs is 1000-grit Abralon polished, where ours is 500/500/500/1000 polished. At the 1:50 mark, they bring in the comparison with the Insanity, which is still 3 boards inside the Legend, and recovers more off the backend than the BW Legend.

The question: granted that the coverstock would be different, could I take a BW Legend straight to 1000-polished and get the same reaction as the Insanity? I ask, because I know I'll have some overlap with getting a BW Legend with an Ebonite Pivot already in the bag, plus grabbing an Absolut Flip to cover the light to medium conditions.

Will you get overlap with the Legend and Pivot? Horses of different colors there, really.

Not too sure there. Both are very strong hybrids with aggressive backend reactions. While the Pivot has a lower RG and diff than the Legend (2.48, 0.49 vs. 2.50, 0.58), it is duller than the Legend (500/1500 Abranet vs 500/500/500/1000 polished), so if I'm reading that right, the hook potential is more with the Legend, the surface smooths that out to where it could be nearly equal to the Pivot. Also, while the Pivot's RG is lower (meaning it will roll sooner), the hook potential of the Legend is higher, meaning it will turn just as sharp as the Pivot would.

So on paper, they would appear to overlap (with layouts being equal). So I'm wondering that if I took the surface of the Legend down to what the BW Insanity is, would that give me that type of reaction off the spot while not getting any overlap with the Pivot, especially when the Pivot starts to burn up.

I think if you take the Legend surface to 3000 abralon, you will see a beast of a ball that would be as strong as the Pivot, but more backend motion than the Pivot. I have a friend of mine that did that with my Legend to compare to his Pivot, and he loved what he saw that he pre-ordered the Legend to put in his bag next week.

At box surface, the Legend is still strong down the lane, but I actually left the surface at 3000 as I like what I saw in that ball reaction... Hope this helps!

Interesting!! Did he add any polish to it after taking it to 3000? This sounds like it would be the perfect compliment to the Pivot, then being able to slot a Flip underneath that for the burn.

To be honest, it all depends on what else you have in your bag. For me, I already had something that was equally strong, if not stronger than the Legend. That's why I followed Plowboy's advice and took it up to 3000 Abralon. My Pivot is at OOB finish, and is bloody strong. Legend is punched up the same, so to have it go longer after the lanes start to break down helps to compliment the Pivot, plus has some serious back end pop.

If it is going to be your strongest ball or the ball you start out with on the fresh, OOB should work fine. Looking at what you have listed, you should have synergy with the Assassin especially when balling down, so you should be good there.

Do you a Legend or are thinking about it? I ask, because I'm really loving the 1-2-3 combo of the Pivot, Legend, and Absolut Flip. You could possibly do the same with slotting the Assassin in 2nd spot between the two.

I have the BW Legend and it is still OOB for me. My BW Legend provides a more length than my BW Assassin. My BW Assassin gets into a roll much more earlier so I like the combo I have with those two currently. My Spike Black/Blue is my "drier" lane ball even though it is stronger than hell and really dependable. When there is a lot of oil out on the lanes though I'm not liking the motion my BW Legend is giving me so I'm thinking about changing the cover for my BW Assassin to be able to handle more oil.

Just trying to gauge what people are finding success with when using their BW Legend though.
