i see all the time people having signitures saying they are Hammer Staff or Roto Grip Staff, etc. how do you become a staff member? what are the benefits and what not? just curious thats all.

its pretty hard to become a staff member. the benefits are staff pricing on bowling balls and i think 2 free of every release (depending on the contract). and you become a staff member by working at a proshop and having a LOT of honor scores, one of the guys that works at the shop i go to has 25 300'ss and 16 800's and he "wasnt quilified" enough. Or you can bowl a lot on tour and make buddies with different reps.

Its all about who u know and u have to be kind of good to, or in a proshop that will push the brand. Generally they like you to bowl 15-20 tournaments a year. Benefits are you get two of every that comes out. Cleaners, tape and other accessories. Cheap if not free.

I will admidt it is hard throwing only one brand all of the time.

Zack: Just curious, since you're staff with Ebonite, does that mean you can throw Hammer, Columbia and Track?

Nope, I can only throw ebonite. That was only for the world series of bowling I belive they let the PBA Staffers do it.

I wish I could. There are a lot of good balls from hammer, columbia and track out right now.

It would be so cool if Ebonite (or other company) can make it easier to became a staff. Like if you shoot ten 300 games, or five 800, then you'll be rewarded for 1 year staff. Just a thought...

A Staffer's job, indirectly at least, is to promote the product line(s) and sell bowling balls. The two best ways to do that are either own/work in a pro shop or be a prolific tournament bowler.

Just being a great bowler isn't enough. If you have dozens of honor scores, but either you don't bowl tournaments, or you're a jerk, the ball companies won't want you on staff because you won't be creating any buzz for the product. You need to have a reputation of not only being a good bowler, but an outgoing one that will talk up the various products in the line.

Everyone I know that is on staff with a company is a super nice guy that is more than happy to take 10-15 minutes to answer questions about a specific ball, doesn't matter if they are in the pro shop, on the lanes for league or in the bar after.

I know a guy that has been on Hammer for a long time. A few years back, there was a tournament right around contract time. There were several hammer guys there (my friend was not). The regional boss or whatever you call him was at the tournament, he went into the pro shop and asked if any of the Hammer guys had been in to see if the pro shop had any questions about the equipment, etc. Pro shop guy said no. Regional boss went out into the concourse and told all the staffers that their contracts would not be renewed.

For some general person, not those that own a shop, its more about bowling tournaments than shooting honor scores. Not to mention if every company started giving away staff contracts for every house hack that bowls 4 times a week in the same house for his entire life, how would they ever make money SELLING bowling balls. Being on staff is a lot more than just going out and shooting honor scores left and right, its about actually promoting the product and being able to show it off and talk it up before its available to everyone else.

What DanH78 has said is 100% correct... I have been fortunate to be on Hammer Amatuer Staff for 2 years & counting. I was formerly a staff member with Ebonite for 7 years prior (Regional) and I feel that it is an honor to be on staff with Ebonite/Hammer. I can ONLY throw Hammer products, which I feel is the best product in the market at this time & will be getting better soon with the recent additions of the Jacked & Nasty.

I used to work in a pro shop a few years ago however, I now have a full time job away from bowling, but I bowl in 20-30 tournaments a year in Las Vegas/California/Arizona.
I bowl in the Megabuck tourneys in Vegas each year (TAT, Mini, High-Roller) and make the semis/finals in most tourneys that I bowl in therefore, I showcase the Hammer products in those bowling tournaments.

I also enjoy working for Hammer/Ebonite during the demo days events, Hammer sponsored tournaments (TNBA), and Bowl Expo when in the Vegas area. I also enjoy helping fellow bowlers with the Hammer brand by answering questions and giving them the best advice on ball selection within the Ebonite brand. I welcome any bowler to come up me during league play or after tournament play to talk to them about the conditions that we just bowled or suggest any Hammer ball or drill pattern that might help them the next time bowling on that condition.

Each time I visit tournaments outside of the Vegas area, I try to talk to the local pro shop which I am bowling in and discuss what Hammer products are selling well for them and if they have any questions that I or my sales manager may be able to help them out with. If there are any concerns that the pro shop may have with the Ebonite brand, I try to inform my sales manager to contact that shop to help them out with any issues that they may have.

It is a little hard to get on staff with various ball companies, but if you are a good bowler that participates in various leagues, tournaments, and represent yourself well throughout the bowling community for yearsâ€¦ you might be able to contact a ball companies to give you a shot at a staff contract.

However honor scores are good, they do not make u a good or bad bowler. I only have 7-8 300's and 3 800's. I know a few house bowlers that have over 15-20 in one house.

The best way is just bowl lots of tournaments, and let them know ur intrested.
