No Mercy vs. Hawgzilla
« on: October 24, 2006, 11:17:39 PM »
I currently have a Black Widow in my bag and I love it. With the release of the No Mercy, I wanted to get some opinions on it versus the Hawgzilla. I am looking for a heavy oil ball, PBA regionals, Nationals, BTM type of shots. I am RH, throw about 19mph, with med/high revs. The Widow is a great medium oil ball for me in OOB condition. So for all those that have tried both balls, which is better for what I am looking for, the No Mercy or the Hawgzilla? Thanks in advance for your advice.

The No Mercy has a new core and the most agressive reactive coverstock Hammer makes right now. I have had both balls and the No Mercy will cover more boards. I don't think either ball would be good for flooded conditions, but oil on the medium heavy side should not be a problem..

Jkiser, I was under the impression, based on the reviews of both in BTM magazine, that either would work on heavier oil patterns. If not, as you say, is there a Hammer ball out there that will work on flooded conditions?

JORGE 300, I think it depends on ones preception of heavy oil.  Heavy oil to you maybe different to someone else.

I have had the BW and have a PAIN. I know the PAIN can work on heavy oil without a problem.  I also feel the BW could work on heavy if the cover was dulled to a low grit.

So if you consider heavy oil to be the same as what BTM uses for there heavy pattern then yes it would probably work great.

I have bowled on flooded conditions before.  On a true flood nothing works.  All the balls just slide.  A condition like that is horrible to bowl on.  I just point the ball to the pocket on a condition like that.

Now on heavy oil balls work fine.  It all depends on what you consider heavy oil or flooded lanes.  On heavy oil a lot of these balls would work just fine.  The BW, NO MERCY, PAIN, HAWG ZILLA can all be used on heavier amounts of oil.  The cover prep, drill layout, bowlers style(revs, ball tilt ect...)  all come into play.  I consider the cover prep the most important part of how a ball works on heavier oil.

I feel you can't go wrong with any of these balls.

The Pain does work well in heavier oil conditions at 1000 abralon. I have one and like it alot. My No Mercy is at 2000 abralon right now and it works pretty well on heavier shots as well. I was not a big fan of the hawg-zilla but thats just me. I am sure its a good ball for heavier oil, I just didn't like it..

I would go with the Pain and abralon it to 1000 if your looking for a ball that will handle heavier oil.. At the price you will pay for a the Pain, you can't go wrong..

Gentlemen,
Thanks for your opinions. I am very happy with my BW and wanted to give Hammer another try for a heavy oil ball. I am really looking for something that will work on the PBA regional patterns, Nationals, etc. The BTM is an extreme case, and I am not expecting to hook the ball on that shot, I would like something that will recover once it slides through the oil. Last year at the BTM, I was also pointing the ball and actually shot very well. My specific thoughts were around PBA Regional pattern 5, with that big block of oil at 30 ft. Last year I had to start by pointing the ball there as well. Would like something I could go straight up with and get some reaction, not expecting to throw 15-5 on that shot, lol. I was leaning toward getting a Hawgzilla until I saw the adds and reviews on the No Mercy, now I am torn. I didn't think about the Pain, but that adds another one into the mix. Damn, just wish I was rich enough to buy all 3, lol. Thanks again and would appreciate anyone else's advice out there as well.
