How should I layout my Cherry Vibe?
« on: March 14, 2008, 01:29:08 PM »
Ordered 2-3 pin, 2.5-3.5 top.  I'm on the high end of medium speed and rev wise and have a large track that is a little over an inch from my fingers/thumb (I have a good amount of forward roll).  I'm planning on using it on some old wood lanes that burn up quick and have pretty tame backends.  I normally throw my Xception that's drilled pin over ring and MB just right of the thumb (5 x 5 I think).  It gets to be a little much after a game to a game and a half plus it's got 200+ games on it so it wouldn't hurt to have something to fall back on.  Should I drill the Cherry similar?  What layouts have you had luck with on this ball if you own one?

You can try getting the pin farther from your PAP, somewhere in the 6 inch range. The thing with this type of drilling is that it will clear the heads very well and use all of its energy in the backend, where you already said after one game your Xception is a little bit too strong.

The other option is to go with a pin on your VAL (vertical Axis line). I did this with my Ebonite Bash in order to tame down a older wood lane house with a dried up shorter oil pattern on it.

Being that we dont actually know your pap its hard to say for sure how you should drill the ball. Just know this, you might have to, either way you decide to drill the ball, learn to change your release a little bit. Even though my Bash, which is drilled weak, is weak, i still have too much hand to keep it on the lanes with my normal shot. This is why I taught myself to use multiple different hand releases, in order to kill revs and hook.

My PAP used to be something like 4 over and 1/2 up I think but it's been a couple years and I just started bowling a few years back so I'm sure there has been a few changes.  That's one of the things I need my driller to do is check everything for me so I can write it down.

Yeah I work on wrist positions and changes in speed but it about time I punched up a new ball anyway.

Mine is pin over ring, cg right some and it's a beast. Way stronger than advertised. A true dry lane ball-no IMO. A great THS ball-yes. Excellent ball for the money for sure.

This is probably what I'm going to go with.  I don't want to drill it too weak because I would like to use it on our fresh shot too, which is on the light side of medium to begin with.

I also have one, mine's drilled very similar. It definately is not a dry lane ball, other than the fact that it clears the heads quite well.

Drilled mine 2x4, CG toward grip center, and love it.  Nice even reaction, doesnt bounce off the dry.
