What's all the fuss about the NO MERCY layouts?

With all the talk about the NO MERCY having a different layout system, I decided to check out the drilling info on Hammers site.

I don't see where all of this talk is coming from.  There are plenty of layouts on there for everyone.

On symmetrical balls I prefer to put the pin above the bridge and kick the cg right to 1oz of side and no balance hole.  This is my favorite layout.  On the NO MERCY I would follow the pin above the bridge layout with the HART 3" left of thumb.  This should give a length but aggressive reaction.

I know these layouts for this ball are different from the norm but I don't understand all of the fuss.  How hard would it be to follow the drilling instructions?  If a pro shop operator can't follow these simple instructions then he's in the wrong business.  

There are pro shop operators out there now that still drill asymmetrical balls with old symmetrical drillings.  Those are the pro shops I wouldn't use.  

I just don't see the need for all the fuss about this balls drilling layouts.  It's new technology.  It seems simple to understand.  If you plan on buying this ball just pick a layout from the drilling instructions and have your pro shop guy punch it up.  Seems simple to me.

To all..............The .012 is not the mass bias differential, yes Brunsnick, if it were it would not be all that strong as far as assy balls go.  The .012 is what Hammer calls Intermediate differential which is quite different than MB differential, as clearly mentioned by Brian Graham at the Hammer Sneek Peek.  This is still a very high MB diff ball.  The main reason for the unique core set up and new drill techniques is to head off the proposed USBC no hole and cg within 1" of center grip. Very similar ball motion to the demo widow I threw with a slighltly earlier read but same strong backend. This is going to be a great ball as long as drill sheets are followed.  My fear is a used one that is sold plugged and redrilled without the sheet to be referenced........probably why I keep copies of all drill sheets of different balls and frequently visit archives of retired ball drill sheets.


P.S.  Threw the first nine with this ball with neutral pitches and equal spans for ring and middle, and a non beveled custom thumb!!

In essence, they made all these balls with the real mb shifted right.  All you guys fussing over getting your pin, cg, and mb in a straight line should stay away from this one!  Just kidding.  A majority of people get a better reaction when placing the mb near their VAL.  This system allows you to do that without worrying about a weight hole.  It makes pretty good sense to me, except I prefer to have the option of an X-hole.

Wait, If the "real" mb is 90 degrees over, does that mean that there are two mb's, 90 left and 90 right?  How is the lefty recommended to drill it?

Guys, the heart marking is NOT THE MASS BIAS. The heart is the INTERMEDIATE DIFFERENTIAL, which, with this unique core design, has more of an effect on the motion of the ball than the actual mass bias. The ball was created this way to avoid weight holes for fully leveraged drillings, giving the bowler the luxury of having the most violent drill pattern without having to punch extra weight holes in the ball (especially with the USBC's rumblings of making weight holes illegal).

The intermediate differential marking on the No Mercy is roughly 6 3/4" left of the actual mass bias, FYI. But marking the mass bias and drilling the ball based on that is not a good idea. Follow the DRILLING INSTRUCTIONS. If you drill based on the MB, then you won't be able to take advantage of this balls full potential. The intermediate differential is the key.

The drill Sheet tells you that the HART is NOT the MB.

Taken straight from HammerBowling.com.   The Drill sheet also tells you all the differant RG and DIFF numbers. The HART locator is .012 Its that low because if you look at the core, that is marked on the flater side of the core, not the rounded skinier side of the core.

The drilling of this ball isn't brain surgery. Hammer made sure to spell things out like they did so that people would understand how to drill this ball. As you start moving the HART around back to the right of the ball, and the same for the pin, you weaken the ball out. depending just where you put everything, you can take this ball and turn it into a great dry lane ball, or a good ball for guys that like going up the boards.

It doesn't state the red zone is a polished strike zone since it's not.. which has been gone over.. and who know if the goliath had activator.. no one can ever prove it.. rumors happen. remember the pearl widow rumor?

I know you didn't mean it as a mean thing.. but Nick is right in the fact Hammer desn't post enough about the ball at all. You gotta wait until you buy the ball out to find most of the info.. which is very very stupid.

I'm sorry what has Brunswick said about the Wizard?  This is a remake and Burnswick has called it something else!  

Hammer does a fine job with there info.  I have never had a problem with not being able to find out info.  If one has questions that are not found on there web site can always use the contact button.  I have sent Hammer a message about a particular question some time ago.  They responded very quickly to my question.

Are you guys from Brunswick wanting to know this info because you guys want to copy this technology?

I will say this once again.  Hammer does a great job with giving info on any of there bowling balls.  If one can't find the info there looking for then they can always send Hammer an e-mail.  They will respond quickly.

I don't know if this ball was made to head off the USBC push to stop allowing bowlers to use balance holes in there bowling balls.  I really don't understand why the USBC thinks that's going to lower scoring?  I have most of the balls in my arsenal drilled without balance holes anyways.  

Lane conditions are what controls scoring.  In my league right now were bowling on our 2nd pattern.  It's a reverse block and it's tough to score good on.  I don't care how many balls with balance holes bowlers have on this condition.  It wont help one score.  

The USBC needs to get there heads out of the rear and think about this for a min.  Seperate the record book and you may then find out that a lot of bowlers will want to bowl on tough shots.  Seperate the book for house blocked patterns and sport/ tough un blocked patterns.

I have seen what this ball can do with some more radical drilling and it is astounding what this ball can do.  Brian Graham and Ron Hickland have came up with a very all around ball here. For some of you who like long and strong try the pin above the fingers in the center and the hart about 1 1/2 inches to the left of the thumb. This pattern has proven to have good length and a strong backend. Just a thought.
