black widow & the big deal...
« on: December 05, 2006, 04:04:19 PM »
I have a 2 ball arsenal.. the black widow and big deal.  they both have the same core and drilling pattern, pin above bridge and mb located 1" right of thumb. my plan is to keep on dull and polish the other. anybody have any suggestions as to which coverstock works better polished or dull. the black widow is resin (as you all know i'm sure) and the big deal is a particle ball.

I like my BW either oob at 4000 Abralon or lower (have another @ 2000 Abralon). I tried it polished but got a lot of over under. I'd keep the Widow in oob and try taking the Big Deal down a bit if you want it for a heavier condition, particularly since it's particle.

I tried to throw my Big Deal in box finish and I absolutely hated the ball.  Rolled too early, quit half way to the pin deck, and hit weakly.  I was about to give up on it and then I hit it with 800 grit polish and the ball came alive.  It saved energy but still would turn a corner and the hit/mix factor increased greatly.  Do not be afraid to polish up the Big Deal.

I would agree with Wallshot that the Black Widow seems to perform better in box or matte condition.  When I polished it up, I really did not like the look I got out of it.
