That flare you see on the new hammer is about what I see on my labeled drilled natural. Did your hammers have any pin length? My pin is directly in the center and it's label drill.
Usually, I will leave a 7 pin when I get a little too much side turn on it and it rolls too late. For me, the blue is most effective when I can get it in a forward roll early. It snaps out the corners and it carries light hits really well. High flush hits do not leave the 10 pin as most resin balls would. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the original blue hammer on house shots.
edit: I checked the flare ring on the track today while I was bowling on a fresh house shot and it's about an inch in width at the widest point.
2nd edit: Right after I wrote about the 10 pin not standing on high flush hits I left when one when the 6 pin flew straight up on a slightly high flush hit and didn't even touch the 10 pin.
Got this pic of it yesterday. I stayed behind it with a minimum amount of hook to pick up a spare.
