Finally drilled and tried one last night on medium-light oil, for which this ball was "SUPPOSEDLY" designed, especially with its 4000 grit ABralon and highly polished surface.
Phooey! whoever gave me that line of bunkum should be shot!
No way can this ball be for less than medium oil UNLESS you have Robert Smith's or Sean Rash's ball speed.
Back to the drawing board ....

Oh so not true. What drilling do you have on it? Then again, I do have a 20+ ball speed off the hand and a 435 avg rev rate.

I love my Blue Vibe on medium-light conditions, it is a monster on the backend. Blue Vibe is not a pearl ball though, Purple and Blue Vibes had solid coverstocks, not like the Cherry and Emerald Vibes those two have pearl coverstocks.

SV,
Purple was pearl. Same cover as the the Doom (Max Flip reactive). The Emerald has the same cover.

here's problem about what you are saying about them being pearl. Look at Hammer's website, Doom has Max-Flip Reactive, where does that say Pearl.
Emerald and Cherry Vibes on Hammer's website say Max-Flip Reactive Pearl.
Purple Vibe says Max-Flip Reactive, no pearl

Max Flip is a pearl formula. Contact Jeff Ussery to see.
Anything else I say will be baiting and I'm not into that.

The emerald has the toxic version of the max flip cover, with traction pearl. The cover of the blue was a widely discussed topic for a while. Supposedly someone has an email from Hammer stating the blue was a polished solid.
My blue was drill leverage and it was a medium- medium heavy ball. Eventually I plugged and redrilled it putting the pin in my middle finger (just over 5 inch pin to pap) and now it's great on lighter/shorter patterns. I liked it so much I put the same layout on my EV.

I am using a 5 3/8 pin under bridge and cg right above my thumb layout, ball is medium light and smooth as babies rump. Perfect for controlling flying backends and some carry down, rolls alot like a 3D Violet Pearl offset I still use. The 3D is drilled stronger but the less reactive cover has a similar ball motion.

That I know and accept.
Svstar34 and K-Dawg, let's not get too far off subject.
AS far as I know, from reading almost everything about the Vibes here and comments made here by Jeff Ussery and others:
Purple and Emerald were specs to be the same pearlized coverstock EXCEPT there was some kind of added "traction" compound added to the Emerald to make it hook more and into true medium oil territory. The Blue is solid all 3 otheres were pearlized. And you know I am not "INTO" Hammer balls, but I have followed the Vibes with lots of interest.

No sweat Charles, but when someone posts erroneous info, it must be corrected. As for your issue, how is yours set up?

Barry,
Mine is drilled stronger but for length for me.
4" pin-PAP, next to ring finger. That high a pin gives me extra length and can make balls flippy. Since this is not supposed to be a flippy ball, I wanted the length and some backend. (I am in the midst of a drastic, for me, release/delivery change and this seems like a good drilling, right now for me.) However, I got a lot of overall hook and lots of continuation. BUT last night I got a lot of hook from several of my balls, newly prepped for this condition.
Like Barry (sometimes), the thumb is not quite right yet for me. SO I'm not drawing any final conclusions yet. I'm sure that this Blue will or should work on this difficult summer league.
SInce this ball's flare is not small, I'm guessing it will work for medium-light ot medium oil, with its box surface.
Kind of a shame it's already so fine. The only thing, short of a re-drill, I can do to make it hook less is to apply Control-It or Delayed Reaction to it. I am not yet ready for that process yet.
So far this is interesting, good interesting.
Thanks, guys.

I don't know about you Jeff, but for me, anything drilled stronger than about 5" pin-PAP is going to hook too early on lighter oil conditions on any ball. I need to use weaker drills to reduce flare and promote length. I usually like to avoid putting the pin too high and use a little surface (4000 or maybe even 2000) to smooth out the reaction and give me a little more roll off the spot unless the heads are absolutely burnt, in which case polish may be necessary. All of this is generic info, I've never thrown a Blue Vibe or actually even seen one in person (though I've seen tons of people throwing the Cherry Vibe).

Thanks, Dan.
I do use 5" pins and rarely do I go less than 4".
It depends on what I know about the ball and the conditions for which I'm drilling it. 5" pins tend to be flippier for me so I tend to stay in the 4" - 4.5" range and use flare to control the ball.
I'm sort of in a double bind here this summer. I'm not only trying to change my release/delivery, this league is in a house that gave me fits last summer and is not much easier this summer. I won't go into the details, as that's not important in this thread.
I do have one option in this ball. I left a bunch of side weight in so I can add a weight hole to add flare to reduce the backend a bit. The kicker is I need some length for most balls either through high pins or thru polish.

Blue Vibe is the best in this series. Blue is earlier, smooth and most consistant of them all. Hope they don't get rid of them
-

Exactly why I try to put the pin lower and/or use some surface to smooth out the flippy motion.
I guess, however, ball speed helps me since I can throw it 18mph (per Qubica) when I need to. I was using a pin up 4.5x3 Spit Fire at 1000 abralon on medium condition wood lanes with good backends the other day in a tournament, but I was able to make it work (and get amazing carry compared to almost everyone else) because I kept my speed up. Since your speed is lower than mine, your mileage may vary. Perhaps lower grit finishes with polish will help you get length but avoid snap on the back if you use a longer pin-PAP with a lower pin position?
-
Dan,
I don't even dream about 18 mph.
It would probably end all my problems.
What would I have to whine about then?

I'm sure we could find something to whine about.

Charlest, you probably should of used a longer pin to pap distance with your layout. However, a nice coat of "delayed reaction" polish should give you the added length needed for lighter conditions.
I've not had any trouble using the Blue Vibe on lighter conditions. In fact, with the correct cover prep i've been able to use my Blue Vibe on just about all conditions!
The BV is the strongest in the series. The Cherry and Emerald should have more length.

20/20 hindsight (
), but since I've only thrown one game with it, while comparing it to some others, that I set up for this condition, I'll use it a bit more before I make any changes. I have to "know" a ball before I decide it really does need a change.

Jeff, you're starting to scare me! Lol.
I was about to drill up a Blue Vibe tonight, and be able to use it on somewhat lighter conditions. I was also going to drill it Rico, but now i'm afraid it will be too strong! Oh geez, back to confusion I go!
haha.

Well, I and a friend were both surprised at the amount of overall hook and the amount of oil this ball can handle. BUT I have a little more revs than ball speed and he's just a great bowler with about 350 rpms (Krumpy300).
To belabor the obvious ----
Take into account the medium-low RG, the medium RG differential (for flare), the strong-ish solid coverstock (even though it's 4000 grit Abralon + polish),
your release and your oil amount.
Remember that a Rico makes a ball hook slightly more and slightly earlier than your average drilling.
Take into account your ball speed/rev rate ratio, tilt and rotation.
Then make the best guess you can.
Remember you can always fool with the cover and, worse, comes to worse, re-drill it. Virtually every ball will stand 2 drills at a minimum most will still perform with 4 drills.
Good luck.
I've adjusted the thumb hole a bit and will try it in league tonight, if they're not too dry, that is.

Charlest, the Blue Vibe really took me by surprise as well. The cover responds well to changes. My 1000 grit BV works very well on the longer, heavier patterns. What I like most about this ball is how well it works on tough patterns. The ball is just easy to control and hit's great.
I know each of the ball companies do a lot of testing before they release a bowling ball into the market. I often wonder if they really know how good a bowling ball really is before they set the price point? The Blue Vibe has got to be the most underrated ball because of it's price point. I don't think Hammer realized how well this ball would perform with simple cover grit adjustments.
