What trick layout?  I have one with a 5 1/2 inch pin 1" from the VAL and the mass bias 5 1/2 and above my thumb.  It goes long and turns sideways.  Not a bad ball.  Is that the trick layout you're talking about?

Pretty much, but the on I saw was like a 4" pin to PAP, 1" from my VAL. Probably the same type of reaction though I'm thinking? Just more flare?

Is it best to have a low top weight ball for this layout?

I've drilled a few with variations of this drill.  Low top and a 3-5 pin are VERY helpful.  4 inches from the PAP will be very strong with that ball.  Not bad, I'm just saying, it will hook.

That's right.  Putting the pin just off of the VAL will make it push as far as it can.  More backend than you'll need on a house shot most likely.  I hope you're bowling some tournament patterns with that.
