Was it cold outside or warm? If it's warm, the oil has a tendency to be more fluent and create carrydown faster, plus leaving other places around the lane with lesser oil all of which create havoc. If it was cold, then the oil tends to be viscous meaning the oil won't move as much as soon. That leads to very dry backends ends at the beginning and lots of oil about the rest of the lane with no real "track" being created.
