Title: bowling ball cleaning

i see alot of people talking about putting there ball in the bath or in the dish washer. i have a bwp an lately it has been really inconsistent. i have been told that they are like sponges to the oil. could someone explain to me the correct way of doing something like this or guide me in the right direction because i am getting sick of taking to my pro shop all the time. any help would be great. thanks in advance

Throw it in your dishwasher without any detergent and run it through a couple of cycles.  Just make sure you turn off the "dry" function as the heating coils may damage the ball.  It'll come out squeaky clean.

turn off the high heat water option also if you have that option. newer washers have this.  
They could heat the water to temperatures that could damage the ball.

Adun,

I echo what the other two guys said.  I put mine in the dishwasher regularly and I add some liquid Dawn in the soap dispenser and run a short cycle.  The Dawn will help attract the oil.
The other thing I found that works pretty good but you have to be very careful is a black garbage bag and a sunny day.  Check the ball frequently but the sun and the heat from the bag will pull out the oil.  I have done this but you have to be careful you dont let it sit too long because that bag gets hot inside.  I have also put the oil-dry stuff you can buy at Auto Zone in with it and it works almost like the Hook Again stuff in that it soaks up oil in the bag just like off of your garage floor.  After I take the ball out I clean it with a mixture of simple green cleaner and rubbing alcohol to get the oil dry residue of the ball and that works as well at least it has for me.  Good Luck

First I've heard of the garbage bag/sun trick.

Here's a guide to the hot water bath method courtesy of the Morich site.  Never tried it myself, as my pro shop includes free rejuvenator/resurface treatments with a new ball purchase.
