Speed dominant bowler...Bite a good matchup for league shots?
« on: January 31, 2008, 01:26:23 AM »
I'm getting a free ball as partial payment for designing the website for a local pro shop.  (www.getagrippro.com/template2.html)  I'm considering the Bite, as I need something with a good "bite" for my speed dominant tendencies.  I usually have success with balls rates for heavier oil on my league shot.  I play down and in through the second arrow/track area, and need a ball that will grip nicely when it exits the pattern.

The bite is strong, do not get me wrong, but its strengths come in the backend. If you truly are speed dominate...you need something that will pick up the lane earlier and allow you to effectively follow the lane transitioning, aka moving deeper when you have to. If you are to stick with hammer, the Anger is exactly the ball you would want. If you want something else, the Columbia Resurgence would be the next choice.

would this guy want to drill aggressively on the resurgence due to his speed?

You should be able to use the Bite with the proper drilling.  I, too, am slightly speed dominant.  I consider myself a tweener in the rev rate category, but have cranker speed.

Anyway, my Bite is drilled alittle different that what you'll see from most guys.  Most people put the mb near or within 2" of the thumb to create that "big backend".  Well, mine is drilled with the mb is closer to my pap, approx 30* drill about 2 1/2 from my pap.

In box condition, it was pretty good on our med oil house shot.  In fact, I was able to move about 2 boards deeper than my Anger(way different layout, more early hook with continuation).  I took the surface down to 2000 and the reaction got better.  More surface allowed it to read the lane a touch earlier, reducing the backend reaction some, but the carry was tremendous.
