BW advice
« on: December 26, 2007, 06:51:58 AM »
Santa left a BW under the tree this year! Was wanting some advice on a possible layout for this baby. I have become primarily a up the boards bowler with forward roll at 17.0 mph.(age is hell) The conditions are mostly medium with the occassional med-heavy thrown in. Was looking at #1 layout and #4 layout on hammers site. Was wondering if #1 would have to much snap on the backend for my style verus the smooth of #4? Can #4 handle those med-heavy nights without surface prep? Don't really like to adjust covers. Any advice? Thanks!

Try the all purpose layout.

If you want some nice snap on it I would say pin above the fingers.  Keep it at OOB surface and try it out to see if you like the reaction first.  Just a reminder that the BW coverstock is very sensitive and needs alot of care and maintence.  So, keep it clean.  You will be giving it Hot water baths later on in its life.
Hope that helps.

Gazoo....
We will need to have more information to give you an honest suggestion. A good driller should want to know your PAP from where your track is on your old ball. Your new ball's pin distance might make a difference in how you need to lay out the ball. Just with your ball speed alone I would not recommend the #4 layout. I would go with a strong drill with the MB in the stronger position and the pin either above or below fingers depending on how long of a pin you have before drilling. The oil pattern and amount of oil on the lanes will determine whether you want the ball to roll up early or later with the pin below or above the fingers. Hope this helps you out some with the information we have at this point.

For me the one I had that I had drilled 5" pin to pap, mb 4" from the pap with the pin below my fingers was extremely controllable and not overly snappy, it still was strong through the backend of the lane but it wasn't too abrupt when it decided to hook.
