Having a Bite drilled today what is the preference OOB or polished  up?

I would always try any ball in it's box condition before ever changing the cover.

Yeah, I'd for sure give it a run in OOB before altering surface any.

Agreed.  If you find it too long or too angular, try bringing it down to 2000 grit. Otherwise, put some miles on it first.

I haven't been to one of the two pro shops I use since a week before Christmas. I stopped by it today inquiring about a ball from another company and the substitute driller that was filling in for the pro shop operator while she is away this week, told me I needed to take a hard look at the "Bite". He said they have already sold several and people love this ball and that it gets thru the heads decently and has a great and strong back-end.

Well, I never pay any attention to Hammer and haven't owned one since the 3D Offset and a pearl blue one (don't recall the name) right behind it.....So, my question is, how long has this ball been out and how good is it? Any help here is appreciated as I am planning on buying one and maybe two new balls within the next 4-5 weeks.

It was released on January 4.

Are you looking for a specific reaction? Or to use something on a specific condition?

pjr300, no to both of your questions. The current balls I am using are in my profile. They all work great on the conditions I bowl on even though they are over a year old. I just have the "new ball bug" and want to buy a couple of new balls.

The pro shop (Anne Marie Duggan's shop) that was really high on the Hammer Bite is in an older AMF wood lane house with well maintained lanes. The oil in this house is normally medium give or take a wee bit on either side. Oil does move faster in this house than the synthetic house I bowl in. I used to bowl in this house a lot, but haven't bowled there much for the past 2 years. The house I bowl the most in has Brunswick Pro Anvil Synthetic lanes and it is also normally medium with a wee bit heavier once in a while but not often. I never see heavy oil anymore where I bowl.

It's a strong ball.... remember, it's a solid, so you'll need some oil.  It's much earlier than the standard Black Widow. That ball pretty much ignored the midlane, while this ball is a much stronger midlane read.

That is funny I here all these people say that the bite is much earlier than the original, mine clears the heads with ease and has a huge backend reaction.  brickguy it will not work at Boulevard as they have too much dry on the outsides and way too much dry in the backends.  Heritage, I use this ball there for the first two games of league and it does great.

I bought the bite and the Black widow Pearl, they comlpliment each other great for these two houses.

Agree with you on clearing the heads... but the Bite has TONS of midlane (where the original BW had virtually none). I think that's the distinction between the two.

I had to buy another BW last week because the gap between the Pearl and the Bite was just killing me.... way too big.
