Title: BW Bite owners, please help!
Post by: bucsfan713 on January 29, 2008, 11:27:28 PM
I am thinking of getting this or another particular ball, thing is I have read many reviews about the BW Bite being cracked and damaged when the person receives it.  I love my hammer equipment that I have now, but I don't want to get this one if it has many issues.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have drilled up 3 in the past week and haven't had any problems of them coming in cracked or anyone saying the ball has cracked as yet. I know it hasn't been a long time but I have not heard of any with that problem as yet.

The first BWBs have hit Germany, and so far I haven't heard anything negative yet, esp. concerning quality out of the box? Where did you hear/read this?

I have heard of not cracking problems with this ball. It was all started as a rumour by a jeolous fan of another ball company.. Why people must do this is way beyond me..

jk...why ? Why do the politicians say what they do ? even if it's NOT true. Just to sway folks on their side/company, nothing more.

The reason I am asking because of the reviews listed on bowlingball.com.  There are some there that state there are quality issues with the ball.

The only thing I dislike about my BWB is that it has too much back-end.  It is a very strong ball!.  No problems with quality at all!

Yes the ball is very flippy, you can tame this back-end reaction with an extra hole, and using a more forward-roll release. No problems with Cracking by any means, as we have drilled 11 Bite's so far with No issues.

Take it to 2000 without polish. It made the ball much more predictible and tamed the backend just enough. Helped me to stop leaving all those 9 pins I was leaving with it at first.

Honestly it seems to me that every time a new ball is released someone comes up with the cracked cover issues.

I'm not saying that balls don't ever crack.  It just seems to me that whern new equipment get's released this issue always comes up on these boards.

To address the issue of the Black Widow Bite reviews on bowlingball.com.

As on this website, anyone can say anything about any ball whether it is true or not. In our ongoing commitment to make our website useful to our consumers we investigated all of the Black Widow Bite reviews. A review of 2 or less was researched and if the review claimed that the ball was defective the following criteria had to be met.

1. The ball had to be purchased from one of our websites.
2. The customer had to fill out an RMA and return the ball to us.
3. The ball was inspected to confirm their claims.

Using this criteria we can state that those reviews that remain are accurate and a few that were not were removed immediately. It is always possible that we received a bad batch. That happens more often in our industry than people realize, with many brands. All defective Black Widow Bites have been replaced and we also reimbursed the customer for drilling. We have inspected every single Black Widow Bite currently in our warehouse and have only found one that we will not ship. We believe this issue was short lived and has been taken care of itself. We own 14 pro shops and to date have not had a single issue with the Bite. Keep in mind that this ball was the last ball that Brian Graham was involved with before leaving Ebonite. Brian has produced nothing but top quality products and the Bite is no different. By the way, good luck to Brian at USBC as director of the youth program. Hopefully Ebonite will replace Brian soon and keep the Hammer brand on course. Someone has big shoes to fill.

The good news, the future of our sport, our youths, is now in very competent hands.
