no talk or view of the True Blood?
« on: January 23, 2014, 03:31:42 PM »
What is the deal? Nobody ever talks about the True Blood. There is only the preview video of it from Hammer. Hammer was going to make a longer video, but never did. Is the ball a dud? Is it just not popular because of the Taboo Spare? I am thinking about getting it for when my Misfit Pearl is too much and as a spare ball, but I am leery of it because of it not being talked about ever.

Yeah been thinking of getting one myself for a while but you don't hear much about it ( which with it being basically a beefy spare ball doesn't surprise me). Just never have been able to decide if it was worth the money over something like a Urethane.

It is a toss up between this and the supernatural or a regular plastic ball for me. I recently just started putting more proper roll on a ball, so I am seeing increased reaction. The result is more chopped right side spares and it is harder for me to make it over to a 10 pin.

I moved to the True Blood as a spare ball ( this year) and have no regrets. Rolls true and does hit hard - after all it is a Hammer. No issues throwing it at 10's or 7's.
Also plan to try it on extreme dry whenever I come across it.
In the bag:
Hammer Black Widow Red Legend Solid 15#
Hammer Arson Low Flare 15#
Hammer Wrench 15#
Hammer True Blood 15#

HG - 300 x 2, 299 x 3, 298 x 2
HS - 773
current 2019/20  avg - 212

Well, you have a ball, that's plastic.  People use plastic to make spares.  You have the True Blood which is $30-$40 more than a regular plastic ball that is used for the same thing.  What is there to review?

That's because in the time it took to post this remark, Hammer has released yet another ball. LOL! But seriously, they have released a lot of balls that don't fit anywhere and overshadowed some good pieces. The biggest thing I have to ask, if you are throwing the ball better and having trouble picking up spares, how is a plastic ball with a core going to help? Plastics are created so that you can throw them the same way you normally throw it and not have to worry about hook.

If it hooks, hit it with 500/1000/Extender Polish or some sort of gritted or slip agented polish. That way the ball rolls more true and makes spare shooting easier. I do it to all the spare balls I drilled for myself and some others and they note how much better the ball rolls. My 7-pin spares have been much better and I can still use it in the friction to make combo spares. One of the biggest things I see people do is they flatten the plastic which, IMO, defeats the purpose of having the plastic.

Loved my taboo spare on the desert
shot 803 with it

no need to get true blood as im outta that place
spare ball with a core, IMO, is kinda pointless
want my spare ball to go dead nuts straight.

thats me though.

I tend to shoot my spares 2-3 mph faster with a bit less hand, but i dont flatten my hand so I think plastic with a core would still go straight for me, but I could also throw that on dry and be able to hook
