So I went in to talk to my driller today about the No Mercy trial he attended today. All was well until he asked the very question that has been vexing me about the No Mercy.

How will it work for lefties?

After being told that the actual Mass Bias is offset 90 degrees over (which puts the mass bias on the strong side if you follow the RIGHT HANDED reccomended drill instructions), he asked one of the guys (not sure if it was Ron Hickland himself), "What about drilling it for lefties?"

If you think about it, if you put the HART on the weakside for a lefty, it puts the MB even further down the weaker side, maybe even on the other side of the ball depending on how far you put the HART.

Confusion came about today during the demo. Although, my driller said the ball looked a lot better in a lefty's hands as it looked a lot smoother and controllable. BUT, thats aside from the principle of the matter...the ball should work the same for both sides unless Hammer plans on releasing both a righty and lefty version.

Can any lefties (or anyone for that matter) that have or have tried the NM give some input on this?

I'm a lefty and drilled the NM yesterday and had a chance to test it for one game on our house pattern.

Denny Torgerson did the layout (#1 - LH) for me and my first impressions are very good. It shows a very smooth roll, not a real jerky move to the pocket as soon as it hits the dry. Don't think there's an issue for the lefty's.

I saw 3 or 4 leftys throwing it at a seminar and it worked fine for all of them.. I see no problems drilling it for a lefty..

Ron's right, of course. The "real MB" location is not just a spot on the ball, it's a line that goes through that spot, through the center of the ball, and out the other side. So whether you go 90* from the HART to find the real MB for a righty or a lefty, you find that axis anyway.

You could do the same thing with any other MB ball, but the CG would be wonky. Since the CG is halfway in between for the NM, it makes no difference which way you go.

But doesn't it matter where the actual "mass" causing this rg is located? If this mass(for a right hander) is located right of thumb, in the strong position, be different if this mass was 180 degrees around the ball, on the line through the ball? This puts the mass under the ball on the left side, on the other side away from the holes. Or does the extra mass(making it assymetrical, such as a an old track EMB) not determine where the MB marker is? This makes sense if the ball is assymetrical in BOTH directions, such as the zone cores and this core. But does not make sense for track cores.

Alright, well if Ron H says its okay, then I believe him (though I still cant visualize it). But hey, he knows WAY more about the mechanics than I do. Thanks for clearing it all up Ron! You guys are doing an amazing job with the Hammer line, very impressive.

Noy, you and your pro shop are not too sharp, if you guys can't follow the simple instructions. Did you have a demo balls with the seminar?
Just take the instructions and reverse it. Turn the bag inside out or take the paper instructions and place it in front of a mirror

That's a very interesting explanation Ron gave. So if the Hart is the Med Rg
Axis and he says the Low RG Aixs is what we call the Mass Bias, putting the HART on the ball track puts the High RG Axis (Mass Bias) in the strong position since Ron said it is 90 degrees from the Med RG Axis.

In other words, if you drew a line straight from the pin through the HART.
The drew a 90 degree line from the cg out. Then drew a span with the pin next to the ring and HART left of thumb, the MB line would be right of thumb right?

At least when we lay it out we can imagine where that MB line would be and adjust it accordingly. Cool!

Alright bro, considering that whoever he asked yesterday had a stumped look on their face and said "I never really took that into consideration..." gives me ample reason to question. Its not a matter of following drill instructions, its a matter of discussing the mechanics and physical properties of the ball.

Where in my original message did I talk about not being able to follow drilling instructions?
