I know a bunch of you had experience with the Doom, so I thought I would double check a layout. I had a guy bring one into the shop to get drilled up. He currently throws an old pearl Aftershock (pearl superflex cover, high RG/High Diff core). I took him out to the lanes, had him throw a few shots and measured his PAP. 4 3/8 over and 3/8 up. Throws the ball with medium-high speed (probaly 18 mph) and decent revs. When I checked his aftershock (which used the standard pin at 1:30 over the label layout), his pin was about 3" from his PAP. He told me that after a couple games at his home house, his ball hooks early and crosses over and he wants this one to hook a similar amount overall, but get more length.
The Doom has a 3" pin to CG distance and 3.2 oz top.
My thoughts are to layout that ball with a 5" pin to PAP (which I expect to end up somewhere between the fingers) and the cg right of the grip line (to allow the use of a weight hole if needed). I'm going to take him out and have him throw the ball (comapred against his old ball) and make adjustments to the coverstock and/or use a weight hole to fine-tune the rxn.
Sound reasonable, or should I be looking at it in a different way?
Thanks,

Sounds similar to mine. I say go for it and adjust with an x-hole if and where necessary.

Maybe even 5 1/2 ? just to ensure the extra length ? Pin 1-2 in above ?just kicking ideas...might not be a much hook as he's looking for but a thought.

Possibly 5.5"... From my experience at that particular house, the lanes have plenty of dry/friction and usually the problem is getting the ball down the lane... I was worried about the ball becoming too over/under, but maybe that's a better option.

My current Doom is drilled 4 1/2" PtoP. Which puts it slightly left and above the ring. By nature that ball is pretty skid/flip already. And that layout should give it plenty of length. Dont give it too much length because he might not like the agressive flip it will make in the back.
