Bite v No Mercy

hi all, was playing in league the other night on a 41 foot pattern, rolling a no mercy up 5 board with an end over end roll (fairly fast), for a 740 series.  my opponent was rolling a bite, playing a wide shot with more revs at a slower speed, but the recovery was unbelievable; deep with a late hook.  i was very impressed with the bite and its carry, and although the no mercy won this battle, it got me thinking.

my question is, does anyone roll the bite with an 'up the back' release between the 5/10 board, and is it stronger than the no mercy on a 41 ft pattern (medium/heavy) with this type of shot?

The BITE is stronger than the NO MERCY.  The BITE is stronger on the backend while the NM has more mid-lane.  The overall strength of these two balls is pretty close.

I guess it really depends on what your looking for in a ball.  If your bowling on heavier, long tough patterns then the NM get the nod in my opinion.  The NM is far more controllable than the BITE.  If your wanting to play deeper lines and have a bit of area on the lanes the BITE is a good choice.

I have owned several NM's and currently have a BITE.  I like the reaction of the BITE so far but the NM is more controllable.

The No Mercy has a strong mid-lane and backend.  Take away some of the NM's mid-lane and combine it with the backend and you have the BITE!

thanks for the advice Az and Chi.  

i currently use my old Razor Blade (drilled strong with a balance hole on my PAP, 1200 grit) as a variation to the No Mercy, but it just doesn't have the same carry, and tends to leave a lot of 10 pins.

just to clarify, our centre got a new oil machine last month, with a switch from a 38 ft medium to a 41 foot medium/heavy pattern.  i've also found that my Pain and Doom are struggling on this longer oil pattern.  the crankers are loving it, but i'm finding that my existing equipment isn't as successful as it used to be.

might look at getting a Bite, drilled strong, to compliment the No Mercy.

I'm not sure what kind of pattern your bowling on but if it's a THS then there's a lot of friction outside. If your bowling on a typical walled up house pattern then it won't really matter how heavy the oil is in the middle of the lane.  Just play close to the oil line and bounce it off the outside.

If you want a new ball then that's fine of course but you could always adjust the cover on both your DOOM and PAIN.  I had no problems with the DOOM or PAIN on heavier longer patterns that DIDN'T have dry outside boards.  You just need to have the DOOM and or PAIN at the correct surface grit.

Have you ever taken the polish off your DOOM?  I really liked my DOOM at 4000 abralon.  Hell I liked the DOOM at all grits! lol  My PAIN worked best at 500 abralon.

i'm reluctant to mess with the Doom too much as it is a great tourney ball when the lanes start breaking down, but i might take the Pain down a bit from the 2000 to see what sort of reaction it gives.

we've got a 60 game marathon coming up on 25/4, where teams of 3 bowl 20 games each over 24 hours, lanes oiled after every 15 games, and would love to get the Bite for that.
