How to drill Widow #2
« on: December 21, 2006, 11:25:56 PM »
I have a second Widow coming in a trade, and I'm curious as to how you all would suggest drilling it. Here's some background:

Arsenal

Flood: Total Shock & Awe #1 (gritty, drilled to roll immediately, for soup)
Heavy: Total Shock & Awe #2 (green pad, slightly shined)
Med-Heavy: Action (slightly shined, smooth and arc-shaped)
Med-Heavy: Black Widow (pin under ring, cg slightly right, mb strong)
Med (solid): Overtime
Med (pearl): Uranium
Med (flippy): Awesome Flip
Carrydown (wet heads): Impulse Zone (pin axis)
Carrydown (drying heads: Eraser Blaze
Med-light: Tropical Storm
Light: Scout Hi-Flare
Spares: Target Zone

Obviously, there is some overlap here and there, but I feel it's better to be overprepared than underprepared. Plus, I love throwing different stuff! Anyhow, I'm trying to figure out where best to place the second Widow. Part of me thinks it would be best to put the pin up high and shine it, making it the go-to ball when Widow 1 starts reading too early. Then again, another part of me thinks that I should put some surface to it, drill it to hook-set and use it for drying heads with some carrydown.

What do all of you suggest?

I would drill this one with the pin above the bridge and MB in the strong position.  Your first BW is pin below the ring so this should give you more length and back end.

Another option is you could go with pin under ring, same layout as Widow 1 but just polish it up, with the pin down it shouldn't be uncontrollable and it would be similar enough to Widow 1 so you could just move a little right and pick it up and resume bowling.
