doom surface?

i have a simple question, i just picked up a used doom. i would like to resurface it before i use it. does anyone know the oob surface? im guessing 4000 polished like the psycho and toxic?

yes it is the same. I believe it is recommended to use:

500 stepping with each abralon grit up to 4000 then use factory finish polish

The Doom was originally 2000 grit abralon plus polish and was changed to 4000 grit abralon plus polish.

best way to refinish it is 360 abralon cross hatch (then hot water bath if needed), light 500, light 4000, then polish with Factory Finish, but be careful not to use too much polish.

That is not the OOB for that ball.

every ball has a different surface structure. some under a microscope look like stacks of slate while others look very 3D like peaks and valleys. (this was discussed by HAMMER at a show that my proshop operator attended) and it is the reason why they chose to go with the 500/4000 method... it simply gave the best results FOR THAT BALLS SURFACE STRUCTURE.

so hammer usual OOB except for the jigsaw was:

500, 1000, 2000, 4000, EB. FF. polish

storm/ rotogrip OOB for a 4000 surface

360, light 500, 4000

jigsaw

500/4000

the point is that he is trying to achieve the OOB surface. he could surface it anyway he wants... but the method of skipping steps would NOT achieve the OOB reaction.

i plan on going with the 360, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 finish then polish

Ice is correct,

500grit and then 4000grit and then polish is the way to go.

i agree with you ice and understand what you are saying, but having tried both methods on my Doom, i like the Storm method better when using a ball spinner.

Well while I will agree with you that I too like it better it doesnt mean that its always the desired reaction.

for instance if you wanted the same reaction as when it was OOB it wouldnt be. BUT for my personal game I have found 500 straight to 4000 to give me that same look as 1500 grit polish with slightly less length, therefore seeing as 1500 grit polish is a good choice for my ball speed, axis, tilt etc... I tend to use the storm method.

I typed what I did before because the question was that he wanted to do a resurface and also asked what the OOB was. assuming he wanted to bring it back to OOB you would need to step each grit just like the factory does.

its also my personal belief that you will get a similar reaction with both methods... one being smoother and the other(storm method) being stronger at the break point.
