The Pain is about 5 boards or so stronger overall than the Doom.  The Pain reads the midlane much earlier due to the solid reactive coverstock.  It also has more of an arc and less of a skid/snap reaction.  I just got the Pain and love it, and I've had the Doom for about 4 months and its my favorite ball.
