Black Widow Drill Options

Just wondering if anyone has experience with drilling the widow with a 2" or 2 1/2"  pin to pap?   I want a very different look in my lineup, something that will roll early and have a controllable backend but still be strong.

I have one sitting on my counter with a 3in pin and 2 1/4oz top weight.  I can make the 2" pin to pap work and place the mb just right of my thumb appx 5" away from pap.  I would have to put a weight hole down on my val but I am fine with that to bring the flare back up with the weak pin placement.  

If there are any other suggestions to give that look, please let me know.  Stats in profile.

I think that layout would be very good for what your looking for.  In fact, that's the same generic layout Mo Rich has on their web site for controlled reactions.

why not put the pin on your pap?
i had my blue vibe done like that and the reaction is sooooo smooth
and with a widow drilled like that well I'm sure u know the difference between the vibe and widow,

pin in pap is way to go for smooth makes the ball go end over end then nice roll as ball hits the dry

I have heard on many accounts that this can cause the ball to flare erratically if one comes out of the ball differently.  For instance, the ball could possibly flare backwards.  

I personally don't really condone such drillings (either the pin on pap or the pin 2 1/2" from the pap), they tend to be so smooth that they carry poorly when they see the least bit of carrydown.  I'd say that if you have another widow and around 10 balls in your current arsenal, the 2 1/2 inch layout is a feasible option, otherwise I'd stay away.  

With asymetrical equipment as compared to symmetrical equipment, the flare decreases to a great extent, and the length doesn't shorten up to as great a degree.  I'd say that with the 2 1/2 x 5 drill with an x hole in the thumb quadrant, you'd be looking at something similar to what your looking for, but without that sort of strong backend.

I'd either cut the widow with a higher flaring pin placement in the 4" range, and maintain the same mb placement, making sure to keep the pin in the lower range.  If you really want that layout, I'd put it on the no mercy (with the knowledge that the hart is a point 90 degrees from the mass bias).  You'd be able to use that pin and mass bias placement without a weight hole.  The No Mercy is also a ball that will maintain backend to a greater degree than the widow.

placing the pin on the pap or a short distance from the
pap requires that you bowl on specific shots. this type of
layout is good for playing out side where there is friction
and is not good when playing deeper and rolling away from
the pocket as the turn back is not good for carry. if the
outsides have friction and you do not want the ball jumping hard
off that friction then try these layouts. the friction will
carry the ball to the pocket and settle in. it will just be
a matter of a slight speed or angle adjustment to figure out carry.
it is very condition specific. watch out for how you initially track
because these layouts could pull your track over your fingers.
probably better for a person with a lower track rather than
a very high track unless the thumping wont bother you.
