For those of you that had problems with your NM how was it drilled?

I received an E-mail from Brian Graham from HAMMER.  He told me that a lot of pro shops are drilling the #1 layout without checking the bowlers pap.  Basically just placing the pin next to the ring finger with out checking the distance from the bowlers pap.

He said that the #1 layout should have a pin placement of 4" to 5" from the bowlers pap.  For some bowlers a pin distance of 4" is above the ring finger.  If this same bowler has the pin next to the ring it would be around 3" from pap.

Since this ball is so strong, and a bowler places the pin in the 3" from pap range, it will not have a strong back end.  I think this is true!

I know a friend of mine has a NM that has not worked for him.  I have a PM sent to him to find out how far the pin is from his pap.  I'm willing to bet it's close to 3 3/8".  This would explain why his only backends good on dry back ends.

WEll......I'm sure it is better to know your pap. I don't, and I'm not having any problems with my No Mercy. What I did was simply, take it to my driller, (Paul Yoder - Holiday Bowl - Albuquerque, NM), show him where my track is and have him put the heart as close to that as was possible. I have something that is somewhere between the #6 and #8 suggested drilling patterns. I have a low track. Last night I managed a 669 which wasn't too bad for me with my 194 average. The only problem I've been having is with ten pins lately, but I feel that's more my fault then the bowling ball. I do know, that on light hits, this ball is wonderful. It scrambles the pins up beautifully. I just have trouble making that final, tiny adjustment to get consistent carry. But then, everyone else was having problems with carry last night as well. And such bowling balls as the Storm Trifecta, Hammer Doom, Track Delta, AMF Night Hawk, Grenade, Storm Domination, among others were having the same problems as I was with the No Mercy. Just one of those nights. So far I love the ball. And after about 30 games....not a mark or scratch to be seen anywhere.

Chitown- Thank you for pointing out the difference in the # 1 layout with the 4-5 pin to PAP distance.  If you look at the NM drilling sheets there is not a great difference between layouts #1 & #7.  I have approx 330 RPMs but have a NM drilled (I thought with the #1 layout) with the #7 layout.  Mine burns up so fast it's unbelievable.  I am going to have it plugged and re-drilled.  As soon as you pointed this out I knew something was wrong.

Your not the only one that did the same thing.  I know of two guys that had there's drilled with the pin to close to there pap.  Both of them experienced the same reaction; little back end.

I think drillers need to pay attention to what there doing!

I toke Chitown's advice and drill it with 4.5" PAP to PIN.
I only bowl 2 games with it, it's working out really well, the back end is very strong. I am going to try it more tonight.

The drill spec on Hammer's site did say "Pin Placement: Place pin at 4 – 5” from PAP "

Thanks again Chitown

I just ordered one this morning.  I have plans of laying mine out with a mix between #1 and #6 layout.  I want to use a 4.5" to 5" pin to PAP, but putting the pin higher above my fingers (maybe an inch to an inch and a half) to help get the ball down the lane.  With this layout, I should be able to swing the HART a fair distance left of my thumb while still keeping within legal statics.  That is assuming I don't get one with a large mis-alignment of the pin-cg-hart.

PM MAXREVS and see if he can send you a pic of his.  His PIN is far above the fingers kind of like the Tommy Jones layouts.  He says the ball is just amazing.

On a side note:  I took some vids last night but they didn't turn out that great due to the darkness in the alley.  I forgot to turn the light on my camcorder.  So i'm going to practice on Sat. at a different house that has much better lighting which should give me much better footage.  I will post them Sat. night!

i dont know what my pin to pap is ,i do know that the pin is right of my ring finger. i also know that this is one of the weakest balls i have. it hooks a ton as long as there is minimal oil and you give it room with low speed. Any other condition or shot and its ten pin city. Would this shortened pin to pap cause this ball to react like that.
I shot a tourney last weekend and shot 702 on a burned up ths to qualify. the next day the lanes were fresher not a lot ,but fresher and couldnt get it to face the pocket and when it did it was a ten pin ,move right and get a 7 8 or 9. I cant square up with it at all the only shot i have with it is drier with swing room. I was considering having it redrilled shifting everything left and putting the pin under my bridge this location seems to work best for me i have found as of late.sounds like to me the drill is off from what you all are saying
