Changing surface of the Black Widow

Hey all my black widow has been great for me but lately it hasn't been hooking as much as it use to and i just got in cleaned so i was thinking of playing around with the coverstock maybe shinning it up or sanding it do be duller anyone try any of these with their widow share your experience

i had the guy at my pro shop clean it on one of the machines

My BW is very dull.  With the dull cover it hooks in oil.  Where I bowl there is plenty of oil so I try to keep the cover as dull as possible.  

How do you do the hot water bath?
