Got the TOXIC.
« on: January 12, 2007, 01:53:53 AM »
Well guys I broke down and bought a TOXIC.  I had it drilled different than my other equipment.  I'm trying a different approach than I normally do with layouts.

LAYOUT: PIN 4" from PAP, CG 1/4oz of side very close to grip center line and no balance hole.  This is your typical label layout.

I got a chance to throw it a few games last night.  This ball glides thru the heads and mids. It's all back end move with this ball.  The back end is different than the DOOM.  The DOOM is more controllable on the back end.

This ball hits very good and is all about the back end.  I'm glad I didn't put a back end layout on this ball.

I'm going to change the cover on this ball.  I will let you all know how it works with the cover change.  I'm going to knock the polish off and bring it down to 1000 grit.  Then i'm going to re-polish the ball with Ebonites matte polish.  The Matte polish will bring the ball to 1200 grit.   I have found that using this polish tames the back end reaction.  It will also allow the ball to read the mid lane a bit better.  Basically a smoother more predictable reaction.

This approach will not give me the same reaction I get from the PAIN.  I have done this same thing with one of the DOOMS I had.  The reaction between that DOOM and my PAIN was completely different.

I will try it out this Sunday during league and post my findings.

When I finally decided to change the OOB surface on my Toxic even 4000 abralon seemed to make it start rolling earlier than I thought it should.  Keep in mind though I was judging it's reaction in a house with old Proanvilane that is lucky to see a medium oil shot put on it.

Put a small hole on/near my PAP to remove the 5/8 oz. positive weight it had and took it to 2000 abralon with Ebonite's Particle Polish.  Now it fits were I expect it to, more or less...

Have you ever tried Ebonites Matte polish?  This stuff is awesome!  I had a DOOM drilled stacked leverage, dulled and re-polished with the matte.  This ball was a perfect control ball.  It would burn up a little going down the lane and flared early which, in turn; gave me a very predictable roll on the back end.

That's what I wanted this ball for.  I had it drilled strong but semi controlled with a label layout.  Now once I take the OOB polish off and re-polish it with the matte it will give it a decent mid lane read but still have some length to it.  The back end should be very predictable.  The Matte polish tends to smooth out the back end.

I like the pearl reactives because under the polish you have a weaker reactive cover.  This allows for a smoother reaction on med to light conditons.

Pick up a bottle of this polish and you won't regret it.

Yes, I have some Matte Finish in my assortment of polishes and compounds.  I'd liken it more to a rubbing compound than a polish though.

I think the abrasive that Ebonite uses for this stuff does slowly break down as you use it, but not to the point where a ball would appear polished.

I shouldn't use the word polish.  The matte leaves it with the dull finish.

mine is pretty much the same layout.  4" pin to pap with 5/8oz side and a hole i believe to be 1" down from PAP.
heres a pic....http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f199/04_MACH_1/Toxic.jpg

i love the reaction. i went with that layout cause everyone said it would go much longer than my redzone with a 4 1/2" pin to pap. i didnt want another skid flip ball but wanted something to have some pop in the mids and back.  this ball was alot stronger than i realized and probrably couldve gone with a 4 1/2" pin to pap.  but let us know how the cover adjustment works.  i was thinking about doing the same.

Gunny, I just finished changing the cover.  I have the polish knocked off and put the Matte polish/compound on.  I will let you know how it works.  I will be trying it out on Sunday.
