Vibes' surface finish?
« on: February 03, 2008, 09:00:50 PM »
Where on the Hammer website can I find the stock surface finish for balls?

It's not with the balls themselves, nor is it under the Technical specs, which probably shoudl be called "Core" specs.

I'd think something like this should obvious and readily available.

Right now, I'm interested in the Blue and the Cherry and the RoadHawg, but I hate to keep posting a question here every time I need to check on a ball that people ask me to re-surface back to stock.

Blue and Cherry are 4000 polished, Road Hawg was 4000 if I read my chart that's faded bad for some reason. Got to get better ink....

They're listed under Tech Specs, click on the "Product Line Technical Information" in upper left above the first ball listed. I print out the chart every year, they don't have any place to look up last years balls that I know of.

charlest, here is the link from hammer's website:
http://www.hammerbowling.com/tech_info/info.php

You get to this under tech specs, then there is a link on that page that says "product line technical information" and that is the page where the surfaces for all the current line is.  Hope this helps!

Pick up a Blue Vibe, just a great all around ball if you don't mind changing the cover to meet the condition.

Click on Cherry Vibe and see how "clearly" the finish is.  There are two conflicting surfaces on the website, but having seen the ball I'd say 4K plus polish.

Thanks, Roger and others who pointed out how to decipher English into Bowling-ish. Somehow when I went to the technical Specs page, I expected to find the ... technical specs there. Instead they had another link to the next "technical specs" page.

Anyhow, I found it. Thank you.

Darn coverstocks on the Blue Vibe abd the Cherry must be too strong if they have to be sanded to 4000 grit AND THEN polished to make them mild enough for "medium" oil.

Thanks again.

Because the shelf talkers or crazy 8's say 1000 polished. Which is incorrect.

OK, folks, calm down already. you're not supposed to fight amongst yourselves, in public.

1000 grit + polis hwill hook earlier and more than 4000 grit + polish. SOme people need that or want it. It's okay.

If some people find some of these pearls too flippy, that's a valid opiton to make them arc more, especially on Brunswick AnvilLane surfaces, which are VERY slick and not condusive to skid/flip pearls.

Stock is 4000 grit + polish. Even on the Doom.

You hit the nail on the head with the above sentence!  I can't really comment much about the cherry vibe since I don't won one but the Blue Vibe is strong!  I took the polish off one of my BV's and was shocked at how much oil this ball could handle when dulled to 1000 grit!

I'm still floored that Hammer has these Vibes at an entry level price!

Some other companies do the equivalent. Check out the Venus and the Pluto from RG, and the Gargoyles from Visionary.
